Rectangular Grid and Polar Grid

The next two line tools are the Rectangular Grid and Polar Grid.

Both work the same way, so I need to discuss only one.

Let us take the “polar grid.”

For this tool we have the same options as eg the “Arc” tool.

So click and drag with the Alt key, the grid will draw from the center. Hold down the shift key on your keyboard while you draw to get a perfect circle.

We use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to adjust the number of circles.

And we use the arrows to the left and right to increase or decrease the number of axles in the circles.

With the F key on your keyboard you can “compress” axles in the circle.
With the V key on your keyboard, you can place the axles further apart again.

Same for the rings in the grid. These can be compressed or expanded from each other.
To do this hold the C key or the X key while you draw.

You should try all of these to see the result.

The Rectangular Grid and Polar Grid have a dialog box where you can enter various settings manually. Double-click the button in the toolbar.

Tilde (~) key or % key

In Illustrator we have a “hidden” trick to make fantasy shapes.

By selecting one of the drawing tools. Rectangle, line, circle, no matter what.
But while you drag and hold the tilde key (QWERTY) or the% key (QWERTY) on your keyboard pressed.

Awesome!
