Lesson 69: “Pivot Charts”

69/87 Lessons

“Pivot Chart” from an existing “Pivot Table”

We can also make a “Pivot Chart” based on our “Pivot Table”.
How original!

Place your cursor in the “Pivot Table”.
Choose the “Options” tab under the “Pivot Table Tools”.
And click the “Pivot Chart” button.

This opens the “Insert Chart” dialog, where we choose a graph.

Click the “Set as default chart” button if you want this chart as the default setting.

Quite logical.

Click OK.

The “Pivot Chart” is placed in the same “Worksheet” as our ” Pivot Table”.

When using the “Excel 2007” version, we had a panel where we got to see filters on the x-and y-axis to be applied. Those are now available in “Pivot Chart” (1).

Just like in a “Pivot Table”, we can add “Slicers” to our “Pivot Chart”.
For this, select the “Analyse” tab(1) in the “Ribbon” and click the “Add Slicer” (2) button.
In the dialog that appears (3), choose the fields in which you want to add a “Slicer” for and click the OK button.
Changing your filters in the “Slicer” will be used not only in “Pivot Chart”, but also in the “Pivot Table”.

Create a “Pivot Chart” and “Pivot Table”

We also have the option to make a “Pivot Chart” without having the need to create a “Pivot Table” first.
For this, place the cursor in the first “Range”.
Select the “Insert” tab in the “Ribbon” and click the downward pointing arrow under “Pivot Table”.
In the menu that appears, choose “Run Chart”.

In the pane that appears, the “Range” is already filled, so click the OK button.

This opens the “Pivot Table” “Worksheet”.

In a “Pivot Table”, we define fields and rows, but as you can see that in a “Pivot Chart”, we determine “Axis Labels” (1) and “Key Fields” (2).
As an example for my “Pivot Chart” I drag the field “Region” in the “Axis Labels” area and the “Product” field in the “Key Fields” area. This gives me a good basis for the “Pivot Chart”.
Of course you can drag whichever field to wherever you want.

In the “Values” area, you now have the ability to drag any field for which, you will immediately see the result in the “Pivot Chart”.
In the “Options” in the “Ribbon”, you can choose another chart type, change the rows of columns, and the style of the “Pivot Chart”.

Awesome!
