Add “Comments”

There are a number of different options for adding a “Comment” to a cell.

Any way we choose, we must first select the cell where we want to add the “Comment”.

The first way is to select the cell, click the “Review” tab in the “Ribbon” and clicking on the “New Comment” button.

 

A second way is to right-click the cell and selecting “Insert Comment” from the drop-down menu.

And a third way is to select the cell and press the Shift F2 keys on your keyboard.

A note appears with the username always at the top.

If you want to change this, click the “File” tab on top of the “Ribbon” and select “Options.”
In the “Excel Options” choose the “General” tab. At the bottom of this tab you will find the field “Username:”.
Change this to whatever you want, and click OK.

 

Read “Comments”

When a “Comment” is added to a cell, it has a red triangle in the upper right corner.

If your mouse pointer moves over that cell , the “Comment” is displayed.

 

Show and hide “Comments”

Moving the mouse pointer over the cell is one way to read the “Comment”.

A second way is to select the cell, clicking on the “Show / Hide Comment” or “Show All Comments” buttons under the tab “Review” of the “Ribbon”.

If you want the “Comments” to be hidden again, click on “Show All Comments”.

 

 

 

If you want to move the “Comment”, select the “Comment” and click and drag the border, which is now changed to dashes, to where you want it in the “Worksheet”.

 

 

Changing “Comments”

If you want to change the text in the “Comment”, select the cell and click the “Edit Comment” button in the “Ribbon”, under the “Review” tab.

The “Comment” will be displayed and the cursor will be in the “Comment” box.

If you are done with your changes, select any cell in your “Workbook”.

 

A second way to change a “Comment” is to right-click the cell and select “Edit Comment” from the drop-down menu.

 

Formatting “Comment”

 

 

To format a “Comment”, we need to first select and view it.

Use the formatting options in the “Home” tab of the “Ribbon” e.g. the font, bold, alignment, etc.

Or click the “Format” button in the “Home” tab of the “Ribbon”.

Choose ” Format Comment”.

In the dialog that appears, you have several formatting options.

 

Deleting “Comments”

To delete a “Comment” from a cell, first select the cell and click the “Delete” button in the “Review” tab of the “Ribbon”.

 

A second way is to right-click the cell and select “Delete Comment” from the drop-down menu.
