Add “Trendline”

A “Trendline” is a straight line with a number of salient points connected to each other in a graph plotted against data.
A “Trendline” can be added to almost every graph.
For example:
Our company wants to know which of our products they want to keep and which products they want to remove from the catalog based on last year’s sales. For this we can add a “Trendline”.

First select the “Chart”.
Click the “Trendline” in the tab “Layout” from the “Chart Tools”.

This opens a menu with six options.

  1. “None”
  2. “Linear Trendline”
  3. “Exponential Trendline”
  4. “Linear forecast Trendline”
  5. “Two Period Moving average”
  6. “More Trendline options …”

The two most commonly used ” Trendline” options are The “Linear Trendline” and the “Linear forecast Trendline”.

In this example, I choose the first option, the “Linear trendline”.

If no data set is selected in the “Chart”, a dialog box appears. Choose the item you want to apply to the “Trendline”, and click OK.

The number of “Trendlines” and trend types in a “Chart” is unlimited.

Choose the “None” option if you want to remove the “Trendlines”.

Figure as background

“Excel” allows us to use a figure or pattern as background in a “Chart”.

For this, first select the “Chart Area” that you want to format. Choose the “Layout” tab under the “Chart Tools”.

Click the far left of the “Ribbon” on “Format Selection”.

This opens the “Format Chart Area” dialog box.

In the left part, choose “Fill”.

On the right, choose “Picture or texture fill.”

Click on the dialog box for “File” if you want to insert a picture, browse your files and click the button “Insert”.

This can be done in any area of your chart.

If you want a transparent background, choose “No Fill” in the dialog.
