Tracking a sent message:

When we send an e-mail, if we want a confirmation from the receiver that he has received/read the mail, we go to the “Options” tab in the “Ribbon” and select the check-boxes “Request a delivery receipt” and / or “Request a read receipt”.

If you do this, the recipient will get a message that you need a confirmation regarding the status of the sent email. If he replies to this message, then it means that he has read your message. This is also displayed in the “Reading panel” when you select that particular e-mail.

It will also be displayed in the “Sent Items” folder.
To do this, double-click on the sent email.
Select the “Check” option from the “Ribbon”.

This is, perhaps, more useful when you send an email to a number of persons. By doing this, you will be able to see who has read your message.

Redirection or Forwarding of responses:

In Outlook 2010, if we want, we can ensure that the replies to our messages are sent to another account of our’s. Thus the recipient’s reply is redirected to the account specified by us.

This can be done by clicking on the “Direct replies to” button found in the “Options” tab on the “Ribbon”.

When you do this, the “Properties” dialog box appears .

In the “Delivery Options” section, select the “Have replies sent to” checkbox and enter the other email address in this text box, i.e the one to which responses are to be redirected. You can also use the “Select Names” button to select an address from your list of contacts.

Click on the “OK” button to close the open “Have replies sent to” window and then click close to close the “Properties” dialog box.
If your email is now answered by the recipient, the response will be forwarded to the email account that has been selected..
