Lesson 32: “Clip Art”

32/59 Lessons

Insert “Clip Art”

For the insertion of “Clip Art”, we have two options.

One way is clicking the “Clip Art” icon in the “Placeholder box”.
A second way is clicking the “Insert” tab in the “Ribbon” and clicking on the “Clip Art” option.

In both these cases, this opens the “Clip Art” task pane on the right side of the application window

The upper part of the “Clip Art” task pane allows us to search for an illustration with a specific theme.

In the second part, we determine where “PowerPoint” should look.
All collections are listed by default.

And in the third box, you determine the media type. Default setting is set to “All media types”. Click the downward pointing arrow next to this box and uncheck all boxes except for the “Illustrations” text.
Since I want to insert a “ClipArt” in this lesson, the rest do not interest me.

When all these are set, click the “Go” button.

All results are shown in the “Picture Window”.
To insert a “Clip Art” from the “Picture window” into the slide, double-click it.
A second way is to move the mouse pointer over the “Clip Art” to see an arrow. When you click it, it opens a drop-down menu where you select the “Insert” option.

When you’ve chosen one of these options, the “Clip Art” is seen on the slide.

You can immediately see that it is selected in our slides and that, the “Format” contextual tab is added to the “Ribbon”.

Adjust “Clip Art”

When we have inserted a picture in our slides, we can change it.
Simply right-click on the image and select “Edit Picture” in the drop-down menu.

“PowerPoint” will ask if you want to convert this image to a drawing object.
When the different parts need to be edited separately in the illustration, you must respond with “Yes”.
Please note, if you do this, you no longer have the formatting capabilities of the image. So the previously used format of an image will be lost.   If you added a shadow to your image, it will disappear.

Instead we get to see the “Drawing Tools” contextual tab.

The advantage of this is, that we are able to edit each part of the image separately .

Transparent Illustration

An advantage of an illustration is that we can make a transparent background for the illustration.

First select the above illustration in the slide.

Choose the “Format” tab and click the “Other colors” button.

At the bottom of the drop-down menu, we have the “Set Transparent Color” option.

When we click on it and then click a color in our illustration, this color becomes transparent.

You can make only one color transparent in your “Clip Art”.

If you repeat the above steps and you click a color in the illustration then, the first color you’ve made clear, becomes visible again.

For the “Clip Art”, the layout capabilities are tremendous and it is best that you try all these atleast once.

Awesome!
