Lesson 44: Hidden slides

44/59 Lessons

Hide Slide

When you hide a slide, it will not be shown in the presentation and it can only be displayed on clicking a button. I’ve already told you how to create a button, when I talked about “Video” in “PowerPoint” but, I will still repeat it here.

I have added an additional slide where I show the content of the course only to those who are interested. Those who are not interested will never get to see this slide.
The first thing we do is, hide this slide.
Right-click above the slide in the list and select “Hide Slide” from the pop-up menu.
This places a frame around the slide number (1) in the list and it will not show this slide when we see the presentation.
If you still want to show them later in the presentation, repeat this action.

In this part of the lesson, I show you how you can still show the hidden slide to those who are interested.

The first thing I do is, for the transition of the previous slide, (1) choose “On Mouse Click” (2) Then the ones who are interested in your presentation will have enough time to read what is in the slide and especially what the button is for, in the slide. Maybe its even better if I do this for each slide.
Thus, each slide must first be clicked to go to the next.
But is this what you want?

Then select the “Insert” (3) tab, choose “Shapes” in the “Ribbon”, and select a Shape to serve as a button.
Right-click this shape and select “Edit Text” in the drop-down menu to add text to the shape.
Right-click this shape again and now choose “Format Shape”.
Make this shape so that it still has the appearance of a button (4).

What we must do now is, add an action to the button when it is clicked, to show the hidden slide to those who are interested in the presentation.

With the button selected (1), click the “Action” button in the “Ribbon” (2).
This opens the “Action Settings” (3) dialog, where you choose “Hyperlink to:” (4).
This opens a drop down list, the list of Slides (5) dialog.
In the list, select the hidden slide (6), in this case, it is “Slide 5”. You can also see that this is hidden by the number in parentheses to the left of the slide.
Click the OK button.

View your presentation.
You will notice that you can see the hidden slides only when the button is clicked.
If you click somewhere else in the slide, the hidden slides are ignored and we go to the next slide.
