Compatibility Mode:

When you open a document that was created in “Word 2003” or earlier versions of Word, in Word 2010, compatibility mode is enabled. This is mentioned in the title bar of the document window.  In compatibility mode, you can view documents which have been created in earlier versions of Word. You can open, edit and save them but you cannot use any of the new features that are in Office Word 2010.

To benefit from any of these options, you must save the document as Word 2010 document.

Click on the “File” tab and select “Save As …” from the list.
Click the downward pointing arrow next to the “Save as” box and select “Word document (docx ~)”.

On the other hand, you can save a Word 2007 document as a Word document from an earlier version.

However, the new features of Word 2010 that were used, will be lost.

Click on the “File” tab and select the “Save As …” option from the list, and select “Word 97-2003 Document” from among the various options.

In the dialog box that opens, you will be warned that you will lose the features of Word 2010.

Click OK if you are satisfied with the changes.

You can now open the Word 2010 document in earlier versions.

If you want to open a Word 2010 file in Word 2003 or an earlier version, you must have the Compatibility Pack.

This converter provides options for Office 2000, Office 2003 and Office XP application files to be opened, edited or saved in Word 2010.

You can find this converter on the Microsoft site, if you search for “Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2010 File Formats”.

Currently, this is the following address:

Save as PDF

Like Word 2007, Word 2010 allows us to save our documents as a. Pdf file.

A. Pdf file (Portable Document Format) is the standard for the exchange of electronic documents and forms if they must be reproduced in their original form.

Fonts, graphics and layout of each PDF document will be retained.

A PDF file will look the same on every printer. A PDF file is platform independent, in other words, it can work on all platforms (Windows, Linux, …) and it can be viewed and / or edited on all these platforms. It is ideal for distributing manuals and anything that is similar to this.

The PDF format was developed by Adobe.

To save a document as. Pdf, navigate to the backstage view (1), select the ‘Save and Send “(2) category, click “Create PDF or XPS document” (3), and then click the “Create PDF/XPS” button(4).

In the dialog box that appears, navigate to the place where you want the PDF file to be saved.

Sending documents

In Word 2010, we have the option of sending documents via our e-mail, from our application. Navigate back to the backstage view, click “Save and Send”, select “Send using e-mail” and click the “Send as attachment” button.

This will open your default email program where the file has already been added as an attachment.
