Spelling and grammar checking

Although the spelling and grammar function is not flawless, this feature is certainly useful. This certainly is the case for me. I just go through the texts I have written for these courses, and in this way it shows the errors that I have made.

There are a number of ways to perform spelling and grammar functions.
One way is with the help of the “Review” tab, and then click on the “Spelling and Grammar” button.
A second way is to click the “F7 key” on your keyboard.

In both cases, a dialog box is displayed:

The mis-spelled word is selected in our document, and in the dialog box, an alternative is suggested.

If you click on the “Ignore Once” button this error will be ignored only once, in our document.
If you click on the “Ignore All” button this error will always be ignored, in the document.
If you click on the “Add to Dictionary” button, this word will be added to the list of words.

This is useful in the case of a company name, or, as in the example above, the word Free Course.

Once you have added this word to the dictionary, Word will no longer regard it as a clerical error.

If you click the “Change” button, the misspelled word in our document, will be changed to the selected word in the list of suggestions.

If you click the “Change All” button, all the misspelled occurrences of a particular word, in our document, are replaced with the selected word in the list of suggestions.

If you click on the “AutoCorrect” button, the spelling of the word will be changed automatically, as soon as you type a space.

Clicking on any one of these buttons, will execute the respective instruction, and Word will proceed to the next misspelled word.

Red wavy lines indicate misspellings.

Green colored wavy lines are grammar errors.

When everything is checked, a window appears, stating that the spelling and grammar check is done.

Synonyms:

If you do not find the right word, or you want something different, you can use the Synonyms function.
In order to find synonyms of a word, right click the word, and move the mouse pointer over the “Synonyms”option.
A list appears with all the words having similar meaning.
Click the word, that you want, in the list. Word will replace the previous word with the one you clicked.

A second and more comprehensive way to find synonyms is to click on the “Research” option in the “Review” tab on the ribbon.

First select the word for which you want to find a synonym. If this is not selected, select the “Review” tab in the ribbon.

Then click the “Research” button, which is at the extreme left of the ribbon. The “Research” task pane opens on the right side of the window.
The word which we’re searching a synonym for, is already filled in the upper box.
Besides the second box, click the downward pointing arrow and select “Thesaurus: English” (default).

Immediately, a list of different synonyms is shown.

If you click on a synonym, (1) a drop-down menu opens, with three options, “Insert”, “Copy” and “Search”.

I think the first two are quite obvious. If you click the third option, i.e, “Search”, and enter this word in the “Search” text box, and starts to search for synonyms of that word, again.

Click “Insert” when you are satisfied with the synonym from the drop-down list.

Awesome!
