Lesson 3: Quick Access Toolbar

3/76 Lessons

“Quick Access” Toolbar

The “Quick Access” toolbar is found at the top left of the “Application Window”.
This gives us the advantage of single click commands.

1

By default, the “Quick Access” toolbar has three buttons: “Save,” “Undo” and “Redo”. By clicking on the downward pointing arrow next to the toolbar, we can add more commands.

The most commonly used commands appear in a drop-down list. If you want to add a command to the “Quick Access” toolbar, then click the command in the list. You will see that this is now checked. 2

If you want to remove a command from the “Quick Access” Toolbar, click again to remove from the list. Or right-click the command in the toolbar, and select “Remove from Quick Access Toolbar.”

If you want to add a command that is not on the list, click “More Commands …”

Customize the “Quick Access” toolbar

To modify the “Quick Access” toolbar, click the “More Commands …” button in the list as seen above, or click the “File” button in the menu bar and choose “Options” in the “Backstage” view that we have discussed in the previous lesson. In both cases, this opens the “Access Options” dialog in which the “Quick Access toolbar” tab is selected. All available commands in “Access” are found in these lists. The commands are divided into categories. To choose a category, click the downward pointing arrow from the drop-down list and click “Choose command.”

Select the command in the right pane, and click the “Add >>” button. To remove a command, select the command in the right column and click the “<<Remove” button.

By clicking on the up and down arrows, you can change the location of the command in the “Quick Access” Toolbar.

In the “Customize Quick Access Toolbar:” you can choose whether you want these settings for all “Databases”, or just for the “Database” on which you are currently working. When you are finished with your settings, click the OK button.

3

If you wish to revert back to the initial values, click the “Reset” button on the “Quick Access” toolbar. This gives you a menu where you set the initial values for the “Quick Access” toolbar only, or revert to all default settings. What the first does, is clear. The second one sets the initial values for the “Ribbon”.

More about this in the next lesson.
