Lesson 20: The Bridge (7)

20/94 Lessons

Review Mode

The “Review Mode”, I had already told you about this in Lesson 15 but still I want to expand it a bit.   I told you how to get here in Lesson 15, you can also get here by the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + B buttons.
In the review mode, we have a number of buttons.

On the left we have the left and right pointing arrows. We use these to navigate between photos.

By clicking on the downward arrow, it will remove the photo from the review mode, not from the Bridge, and certainly not from your computer.

You can also enter a rating for a picture in the review mode. First, bring the picture to the front, and then type the number of stars you want to award.

At the bottom right of the window, we find three buttons.

The first button shows a magnifying glass in the picture. By clicking and dragging in the magnifying glass, you can change the position. By clicking on the lower right corner, you can close the magnifying glass.

The second button will automatically create a collection of these pictures.

The third button will close the review mode.

Slideshow

First select the photos you want to play in the slideshow, click the button “View” in the menu bar and choose “Slideshow” in the drop-down menu.

All the selected pictures are displayed in full screen mode with a default interval of 5 seconds.

To change this, press the L key on your keyboard.
This opens the dialog “Options for slideshow” where we change the interval between pictures.

In the “Display Options” section, we can obscure an additional monitor, repeat the slide show or zoom in and out.

In the “Slide options” section, we can set the duration of the slide, plus the captions and specify the display.

And in the “Transition Options”, we enter the style and speed of the transition.
Click on a picture to zooms-in to 100%.
By clicking on the arrow keys on your keyboard, you can manually navigate between photos.

Export

A new feature in Bridge CS5 is the “Export” panel.

With the Export pane in Adobe Bridge CS5, we can we take pictures in RAW (file format) or pds files, save them as JPEG files which can easily be uploaded to websites for sharing photos.

All you have to do is to click and drag the pictures into the “Export” panel.

This opens the dialog “Export”.

The dialog “Export” has two tabs. “Target” (1) and “Image Options” (2).

Under the “Target” tab, we can save the files to their original location or to another folder (1).

If you choose the later, click the “Browse” button and select the folder where you want to save it.

If you want to store the new files to a new filename, select “Create Unique filename” in the “Existing files” (2).
Under the “Image Options” tab, you can adjust the image quality (1) to 12. This is the highest quality. Do not choose “best quality”, as this can also be 10 or 11.

If you want to set the size, choose “Size manually” (2) and type the size you want in the “Fit”.

If the files are for printing, choose “Bicubic (best for printing).”

If these are only for viewing on your screen, choose “Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction)” (3).

If you want the metadata record, check the box “Metadata” (4).

And If you wish to give additional keywords for the pictures, you can type in this box (5).

If you click the “Save” button, the settings are saved as JPEG (1).

Clicking the “Export” button, the files will be saved in JPG format (2).

Click the X icon (3), Photoshop is ready to export (3).

The RAW files are saved as JPG files.

In the earlier versions of Photoshop, you needed to do this one by one, you can now do everything at once. So, a lot quicker.
