Hue / Saturation

Another option to perform color corrections is, using the “Hue / Saturation”.

This option can be found under “Image” in the menu bar, choose “Adjustments” in the drop-down menu and click “Hue / Saturation”.

Or we open the “Adjustments” panel and click the second icon on the middle row.
Whatever you do, no matter, the “Hue / Saturation” panel is opened.

By dragging the scroll bars “hue” and “Saturation”, we can change the colors of our photos. A problem, however, is that we will modify all the colors in our picture. So we start again.

To get the picture back with the original colors, click the button “Reset to Adjustment Defaults” (1), this is the button next to the trash in the menu bar of the “Adjustments ” pane.

To change only the color of shirt, click the downward-pointing arrow in the upper section (2) and choose a hue in the list.
In this case, it is easy, it is blue, blue of the shirt.

But suppose, it is a hue that is not in the list.

Then remember the color wheel, that I’ve shown in the previous lesson, and choose a color that best adapts to the color to be changed.

And you select this shade in the drop-down menu.

At the bottom of the dialog, you see two color bars (1) and a darker gray bar in between with two blocks on the left and right.

Now, all colors on the darker gray bar change when we move the sliders on the “Hue” and “Saturation” sliders. All colors that lie between the two blocks are not changed.

For the darker gray bar, we can enlarge or reduce the range by clicking and dragging the edges. Or you can also move it by dragging the bar.

Same goes for the two blocks next to the darker gray bar, we can drag and thereby expand the color range.
Click OK when you’re happy with your settings.

If you have a second color (2) that you want to add, hold the Shift key on your keyboard pressed while you move the mouse pointer over the image and click insert.
