Move selection

Now we know how to make a selection, let’s see how we can edit a selection.
The first thing I want to talk about is to move a selection.
When I talk about moving the selection, I move the selection area, not the contents of the selection.
To move a selection, place your mouse pointer over the selected area and when it changes into a white arrow with a square, drag the selection to another position.

The only requirement is that, a selection tool is selected in the tool bar, no matter what. Whichever selection tool you choose, make sure the “New Selection” option is selected in the options bar.

Move Selected

To move the contents of selected area, first select the “Move” tool in the tool bar and place your mouse pointer over the selected area.

When it changes into a pair of scissors, click and drag it to the desired position.  To delete the selected part of the picture, click the Delete key on your keyboard.

Another tip.
Whatever you want to move, the selection or selected, you can also do this with the arrow keys on your keyboard. If you like this, hold the Shift key on your keyboard pressed, move it 10 pixels.

Moving the selected image to another, depends on the manner in which the pictures are opened.

When the photos are opened in different stacks, click and drag the selected from one photo (1) to the other (2), and release the mouse button (3) when it is in the desired position (3).

When the pictures are opened in tabs, click and drag the selected tab of the photo which you want to place (1). You wait until the picture is displayed in tab (2), then drag the mouse pointer in the picture and release it finally (3).

Invert Selection

When you’re in a photo to select a part that is difficult to select, then you should not select it, if it is convenient to select the part that is easier to select and then invert the selection.

For example, you want make the selection of an object that is located on a plain background.

Then it is much easier to select the background than the object.

First select this “non selection” section, click the “Select” button in the menu bar and select “Invert Selection” in the drop-down menu. Shift + Ctrl + I on your keyboard is the shortcut for this.

Then you can do what you want with the selection. For example, paint it with the brush (1).

Tip one.
When you need to select something in a picture, you will first study the photo, and if you know what is the easiest part to select, you’re halfway there already.

Tip two.
Hold down the Alt key on your keyboard pressed while clicking and dragging, when you want to make a copy of the selected.
