Photoshop - CS5

Lesson 14: The Bridge (1)

14/94 Lessons

What is “Bridge”

The Bridge is a stand-alone application that comes for free with the Photoshop application, and with that, we can search our files, organize, view, delete, and I do not know what else. So why not use it, even more, why not use it efficiently? To open Bridge, click the Bridge button in the menu bar when Photoshop is opened or when it is not open, from the Start menu of Windows.

If it is the first time you are using Bridge, you are more than likely to see everything on your desktop, in the “Content” section of Bridge.

Click the Folder tab (top left of the window) and navigate to the folder on your harddisk where your photos are stored.
All image files stored in this folder are displayed:

Preferences

The first thing I do is to set a few personal preferences.

How you do this, it does not matter, you set it the way you want.

If you are good at it, you can skip this part and continue with the next lesson.

To change the preferences, click the “Edit” button in the menu bar and select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu.

In the “General” tab, I change the brightness of the background color to a slightly dark color (1), the image reduction to a little less dark color (2), and the accent color to a fairly striking color (3).

We will soon see what this leads to.

In the “Thumbnails” tab, I give the information about the the pictures (4) that I want to see. In my case the dimensions in inches, the size (this is in KB) of the photo, the keywords, and the label of the picture.

This gives the following pictures as a result.

  1. the background has been changed so I get more contrast between the pictures and application.
  2. the color of the selected picture is a little more dark (half).
  3. The accent color is selected from the “Default”, which is blue (3).
  4. and information about the image that I want, is under the thumbnails (4).

These are purely personal preferences, you do whatever you want.
