Layer Mask by selection

In a previous lesson, I showed you how to you fill a layer mask grayscale using the “brush” tool.
In this lesson I will tell you how to do this by means of a selection.

The first thing you do is add a layer mask (1).
Then make a selection of everything you want in the layer mask (2).
How you do this, you would have known by now.

Then set the foreground color in the toolbar to black.
Then hold the Alt key on your keyboard pressed while you use the “Backspace” button on your keyboard.
This will fill the selected area with the foreground color in the layer mask, that is black (1).
As you will notice, the layer is displayed in the windows (2).

You can possibly adjust the position of the landscape by selecting this layer (1).
Then, select the “Move” tool option in the tool bar (2).
And click and drag in the picture, until you’ve reached the desired position (3).

Good to know!
When you first make your selection and then add a layer mask, then the selection is in white color in the layer mask and the remaining is in black.
This is interesting if you want to display all of the underlying layer, with the exception of the masked selection in the layer.

Besides, you can just create the opposite in the layer mask, click the “Invert” (1) in the “Masks” panel. This makes it very easy, the black and the white areas get reversed in the layer mask. The hotkey for this is Ctrl + i.

Awesome!
