Spelling and grammar checking

“Word” carries out spelling and grammar checks automatically as you type. Possible spelling errors are indicated with a red wavy line and possible grammatical errors with a green wavy line under the word. The wavy lines are not printed.
This is initially set when we start the program.

When we right-click on a wavy underlined word and choose “Spelling & Grammar” control, “Word” displays the dialog box containing the words which are suggestions for the spelling and grammatical mistakes.

In this dialog we can choose “Ignore Once” (“Ignore Once”), “Ignore All” (“Ignore All”), and “Add to Dictionary” (“Add to Dictionary”).
If we choose “Ignore Once” (“Ignore Once”), “Word” will ignore this error once in the “Document”.
If we choose “Ignore All” (“Ignore All”), “Word” will ignore this error each time it appears in the “Document”.
We choose “Add to Dictionary” (“Add to Dictionary”), “Word” will place this word in its vocabulary, and this error does not show anymore.
This is useful when we use a company name.
When we enter our company name in “Word” it will never find it in its dictionary, and always displays an error. When we add it to the dictionary, “Word” will recognize this and not show it as an error.

“Spelling and grammar” options

In the “Options” window we can have a lot of properties for “Spelling and grammar”.
We open this dialog by clicking “Tools” – “Options” in the menu bar and select the “Spelling and grammar” tab.

“AutoCorrect” option

Everyone makes mistakes in typing.
But some of us will have a word that may always be typed wrong, especially if it should go quickly.
“Word” has a solution: “AutoCorrect” (“AutoCorrect”).
With “AutoCorrect” we can correct mispelled words, grammatical errors and incorrect use of capitalization .

For example, if we type shcool, instead of school, plus a space, we can set “AutoCorrect” to automatically correct it.
Or if we for example type, “we niiot go to school”, it can be corrected as “we never go to school.”

We can also use “AutoCorrect” to insert symbols.
For example, when we type (r), it should insert he symbol ® .

We can add and delete entries in “AutoCorrect”.
For this, we add the word we want to replace in the “Replace:” option, and the symbol that we want to replace it with, in the “With:” (“With:”) box.
les04_image04_en Click on the “Add” button (“Add”).
If we want to remove an entry, we select it in the list, and click “Delete”.
To open the “AutoCorrect” window we click on “Tools” – “AutoCorrect” option in the menu for the versions XP and 2003.
Or “Tools” – “AutoCorrect …” in the menu for the versions 2000 and 97.

We can also complete our text formatting.
