3/83 Lessons

The “Ribbon”

At the top we have 7 standard “Ribbon’ tabs:
‘Home” – “Insert” – “Page Layout” – “Formulas” – “Data” – “Review” – “View”.

Additionally, we have the Developer tab.

Depending on the selected tab, various groups are displayed in the “Ribbon”.
Each group has its own command buttons, which are further explained in subsequent lessons.

Some of these command buttons have a downward pointing arrow next to them.
When we click it, it opens a drop-down menu with more options:

Under each group you have a group name, next to some of these group names you have an arrow pointing to bottom right.
When you click this arrow, a dialog box opens which is very similar to the dialog box from earlier versions of Excel.

Minimize the “Ribbon”

We can minimize the “Ribbon” in various ways.
One way is to click on the downward pointing arrow next to the “Customize Quick Access” toolbar, and choose “Minimize the Ribbon”.   To maximize the ribbon, repeat this action.
A second way is, double click on the active tab.

If you double click this tab again, the “Ribbon” will maximize.
A third way is to right click on the ‘Ribbon” and choose “Minimize the Ribbon”.
The fourth way is to click Ctrl+F1 keys on your keyboard.

When the “Ribbon” is minimized, you still have access to all command buttons.
Click on the tab that contains these buttons, and the “Ribbon” will automatically be maximized.
Once the command is selected, the “Ribbon” will automatically minimize.
