Inserting Cliparts

As most of you know how we add “Clip arts”, since you’ve worked with other Office applications, I will not go into that too deep.

Just click the “Picture Frame” button on the “Objects toolbar”.
Select “Clip arts” from the pop-up menu.

This opens the “Clip arts” panel.

In the “Search” text box at the top, enter a keyword, eg. school.
If you don’t enter anything in this box, it will display all the various options that are available in the different folders.
In the “Search in:” text box Publisher must choose where to search. If nothing is entered here, then Publisher searches in all folders.
In the “Results should be:” text box, select “Clipart”, i.e the type of “Cliparts” that we want to add.
Click on the “Go” button when you’re done.
Publisher will display all the files that are found.
Click on the “ClipArt” that you want to add to your publication.
This places the “ClipArt” in the publication. The “Image toolbar” appears automatically so that we can edit our “Clip art”.
I will not elaborate on this toolbar , because it is the same in “Word”, so if you want to know more about it, just go through Lesson 12, of the Word 2003 course,
The same goes for “WordArt”, i.e, if you have any doubts, take a look at Lesson 13, of the Word 2003 course .

Insert / Options

Before you insert an image from your camera or from your computer, we should first go through the options.
If you want to print the publication, then this picture should be of optimum quality.
So first click on the “View” button in the “Menu bar” and select “Pictures …” from the drop-down menu.
This opens the “Picture Display” dialog box.

In this dialog box, we have three options.
Select the first option, when you want to display the image in detail, in your publication.
If your image is high in quality, i.e if it is very large in MB, it may take a while for your image to be inserted into your publication.
If you want this to be done faster, select the second option. This will not display all the details of the picture, but when you need to adjust the dimensions, it doesn’t matter much.
Select the third option if you do not want to see the image in “Publisher”, but want to see it when you print the publication.
Click OK when you’re done.
“Publisher” is now ready to insert your image.
I’m sure you know all about it.
But if you do not know how to do it, click on the “Insert” button in the “Menu bar”, select “Picture” from the drop-down menu, and click “From File”.
Navigate to the image which is to be inserted, select it and click on the “Insert” button.

Inserting an Excel document

If you want to insert a new or existing “Excel” document, click on the “Insert” button in the “Menu bar” and select “Object” from the drop-down menu.
This opens the “Insert Object” dialog box.
You cannot only do this with Excel files, but also with “Word” or “PowerPoint” documents and other such files.
Select the file from the list on the left of the dialog box, or a create a new file which is to be inserted.

If you select the first option, you have to navigate to this file by clicking on the “Browse” button, select the file and click “Open”. This will insert the existing “Excel” File in “Publisher”.
If you select the second option, the second dialog box will open, where you can select the file type from the list.
In this example I select an “Excel” file, and click on the OK button.

This places the empty “Excel” file in my publication.
The “Excel” “Ribbon” appears at the top of the window. As long as the “Excel” file is selected, you can do everything that is possible with a normal “Excel” file.

When you are ready, you can click anywhere outside the “Excel” file in “Publisher”, which will take you back to your Publication where the “Excel” file is inserted.
If you want to modify the “Excel” file, double click on this publication, and you will return to the place where you inserted the “Excel” file, where it can be edited.

Inserting and updating Design Gallery Object

Finally, I will give an example of the “Design Gallery Object.”
When we click on this icon in the “Objects toolbar”, a dialog box opens.
In this dialog box, we have some pre-designed elements, which are divided into categories.
In this example I select the “Logos” category from the left portion of the window, make a selection in the middle portion of the window, and on the right portion of the window, I have a few options.
I select “Include”, and select two as the number of lines that are to be added.

As soon as I click on the “Include” button, this object is added to my publication.

For formatting this object, we use the same formatting options for a normal object.

To modify this “Clip art” which looks like a pyramid, select it, right-click, and select “Change Picture”and then “Clip art” from the drop-down menu.
This opens the “Clip art” panel.
When you click on any picture in the panel, the selected picture in the publication will automatically be changed.
