49/87 Lessons

Move “Legend “

When we create a “Chart”, the “Legend” is by default placed on the right side of the “Chart”. If we want to change this, we first select the “Chart” and click the “Legend” button in the “Layout” tab of the “Chart Tools”..

This opens a drop-down menu with seven choices. All are very clear and need no further explanation.

By clicking on the bottom item “More Legend Options…”, we find many more settings options for the layout of our “Legend”. Far too many to mention.

“Data Labels”

Depending on the data in our chart, it can be useful to have “Data labels”.

Click on the “Data Labels” button in the “Layout” tab of the “Chart Tools”.

Choose one of the options in the drop-down menu.

The options in the drop-down menu depend on the “Chart type” chosen.

Again we have a large number of options under the option “More Data label options …”

“Data Table”

We also have the opportunity to add “data in a table” to our “Chart”.

It doesn’t matter whether the “Chart” is in the same “Worksheet” as the data or whether it is in its own “Worksheet”.

Click on the “Data Table” button in the “Layout” tab of the “Chart Tools”.

In the “Data Table” drop-down menu there are three options: “None”, “Show Data Table” and “Show Data Table with Legend Keys”. The “Data table” is placed below the “Chart”.

A “Data table” can only be added to Column, Line, Rod and Plain “Chart” types.

Changing “Chart Axes”

By clicking on the “Axes” button in the “Layout” tab of the “Chart Tools”, we can display or hide the vertical axis (Y axis) and the horizontal axis (X axis) .

For the horizontal axis we have four options. For the vertical axis we have three options.

Adding and Removing “Gridlines”

By default, vertical “Gridlines” are added in our “Chart”. By clicking on the “Gridlines” button beside the “Axis” button in the “Layout” tab of the “Chart Tools”, we can add or delete both vertical and horizontal “Gridlines”.

Preparation of chart items

To remove an item from the “Chart”, first select the item.

Select the tab “Format” in the “Chart Tools”.

In the tab “Format” we have five groups:

  1. “Current Selection ”
In the group “Current Selection” we can select the item by clicking the downward pointing arrow button. This opens a drop-down menu in which all our items in our chart are listed.
  2. “Shape Styles”
  3. “WordArt Styles”
  4. “Arrange”
  5. “Size”

The “Shape Styles” and “WordArt Styles” groups have Live examples but only when the “Chart” is in its own “Worksheet”.

Delete “Chart”

To delete a “Chart”, select the “Chart” and press “Delete” button on your keyboard.

To remove a “Chart” in a new “Worksheet”, right click the “Chart” and select “Delete”. “Excel” will ask you if you’re sure, once it is removed you can not go back, even with the “Undo”.

Print “Chart”

If we just want to print the “Chart” with data in our “Worksheet” , we first select the “Chart” and then we will navigate to the “Backstage” display (1). In the middle we find a number of options we can set (2). On the right side, an example (3) is shown.
When you’re satisfied, click the “Print” (4) button on top.

If we want to print a “Chart” in its own “Worksheet”, first open the “Worksheet” and then follow the same steps as above .

Awesome!
