15. “Tags”:

“Tags” in a note usually indicate how important a note is. They also have various other uses. A “Tag” highlights sentences or other components of a page. “OneNote” has a comprehensive list of “Tags”. Tags are found on the “Home” tab in the “Ribbon”, under “Tags”.

These “Tags” can be used to highlight certain notes and you can also use them to find notes. You will see frequently used “Tags”, such as when a symbol is used or when text is highlighted (eg. “Remember for later” or “Definition”). A “Tag” can also be a shortcut to a note stored elsewhere.

You can see from the list above that some “Tags” are listed as shortcuts.
You can also create, change and delete “Tags”. Also, as previously mentioned, you can perform searches with “Tags”. Some “Tags” are integrated with “Outlook”.

15.1. Marking a note:

Always use a “Flag” for an entire paragraph, so that the text is located between two points.
Place the mouse anywhere in the paragraph where you want to place a “Tag”.

Then click on the arrow which is found below “Tags” on the “Home” tab in the “Ribbon”. The list of available “Tags” appears:

Click on the desired “Tag”.

If you want to apply the same “Tag” on different paragraphs, then you can right-click on the desired paragraph and click on the “Tags” option.

15.2. Removing a “Tag”:

Right-click on the “Flag” found to the left of the tagged paragraph. On the drop-down menu that appears click the “Remove Tag” option.

If you want to do this without using the symbol, right-click the paragraph and click on the “Tags” option. You can then select the “Remove Tag” option from the drop down menu that appears

This way you can use multiple “Flags” to remove “Tags” for a paragraph or several selected paragraphs.

15.3. Creating your own “Tag”:

Click on the arrow below the “Tags” tab present in the “Home” tab of the “Ribbon”, to open the drop-down list, or right-click anywhere on the page and click the “Tags” option.

Select the “Customize Tags” option which is at the bottom of the drop-down list.

The “Customize Tags” window appears:
Click on the “New Tags” button.

Enter a “Display name” and select the “Symbol”, “Font color” and “Highlight color” of your choice.
