Lesson 17: AutoFormat

17/59 Lessons

“AutoFormat As You Type”

The “AutoFormat As You Type” option, does what it says i.e, it checks the typed text as soon as you type it.

For example, type a 1 plus a dot, followed by a space and click “Enter”.

“AutoFormat” will consider this as a numbered list.

Note that when there are more white spaces between the point and the first letter of the word, it can be seen when the ruler is visible.
Select this “View” tab and click the “Ruler” checkbox.
You see the “hanging indent” currently stands at almost 2, where it normally would be at 0.

The ruler in “PowerPoint” also offers all the same options, or almost all, as the ruler in “Word” 2010. If you wish to know more about it, please look at Lesson 8 of “Word” 2010 course.

When we enter more text into a “Placeholder box”, the text size adapts to the size of the box. I told you about this before.
Now, if this is the case, click in the “Options for Auto Edit” button next to the “Placeholder box”.

When we click this, we have 3 options.

The first option is default, and the size of the text fits the size of the box.

The second option, the “AutoFormat” function is turned off and the text is displayed in its original size.

And the third option opens the “AutoCorrect” dialog in which the “AutoFormat As You Type” tab is selected.

This tab gives us all predefined AutoFormat options.

Changing AutoFormat Options

The same dialog can be opened by navigating to the “Backstage” view and clicking the “Options” button. Clicking The “Proofing” option opens the “AutoCorrect Options …” and select the “AutoFormat As You Type” tab option.

All options in this tab can be turned on or off by clicking on it. This seems clear to me and needs no further explanation.

Click OK at the bottom of the dialog if all of your options are set.

Awesome!
