Lesson 32: Page Background

Page Borders:

In Word 2010, we can create borders for all modules including, documents, pages, paragraphs, sections, images etc.
The “Page Borders” button is found under the “Page Layout” tab on the ribbon.
When we click this button, it opens the “Borders and Shading” dialog box.

In this dialog box, we have three tabs, but the “Page Border” tab is selected, by default.
On the left we have the various options.
In the middle we have the style, color, width, and whether or not we want to use an art. All this seems clear enough.
On the right, we have the preview, with the four buttons (top, bottom, left and right) depending on where we want to have an border.
We also have the “Apply” text box.
All these are also quite clear.
If you want the borders to be applied only to a part of a text or a paragraph, select the “Borders” tab.
Here you will find the “Apply to” text box along with the “Text” and “Paragraph” options.

If you want certain parts of your text to be shaded, then select the “Shading” tab.
That is quite logical.

Page Color

By default, Word has a black text on a white page.
But we have the option of changing it.
Click on the “Page Color” button, under the “Page Layout” tab on the ribbon.
This opens a menu with various colors from which you can select a background for your document.
If you select a dark background color, then Word will automatically adjust the text to a light color.
The “Live Preview” option will show you an example of the color before you apply it, when you click on it.
The selected background color is applied to the entire document.

Watermark:

The “Watermark” option adds text or images in the background of your document.
The “Watermark” button is found under the “Page Layout” tab on the ribbon.
When we click this, we have a number of pre-defined watermarks, divided into groups, along with the “Custom Watermark …” and “Remove Watermark” options.
Clicking on the button “Custom Watermark …”, gives us the option of entering text, or selecting a picture on our PC that can be used as a watermark.

When we select the “Text watermark” option, we have the option of choosing the font, size and, color and, whether we want it to appear horizontally or diagonally in our document.

Click OK when you are satisfied.
The watermark is then added to each page.

Awesome!
