Straighten

It is always possible, even when you’re a seasoned photographer, you have taken crooked pictures, perhaps you had drunk too much or something.

In Picasa, we have the opportunity to rectify this.

Double click the first image you want to edit.

This opens it in the edit view.

Click the button “straighten” under the first tab “Basic Fixes”..

Click and drag the mouse pointer over the slider to left or right, depending on the direction that you want to run, and click the “Apply” button.

On the basis of the grid that appears in the image, we can determine when the picture is straight.

Red Eye

The red eyes that can pretty much be prevented when you take pictures of people are caused by the flash of your camera.

This red eye in photos is even easier to fix.

Double click the image to open in edit view, click the button “Red Eye” under the tab “Basic Fixes.”, And click and drag it in the photo on the red eye.  Picasa will automatically eliminate the red eye.

Click the “Apply” button to return to the edit view.

If you have taken a lot of pictures, and you have to do this one at a time for red eyes, this could take a while.

Since we know that red eyes are caused by the flash on your camera, we might just get all the photos taken with a flash.

Well, in the search box type ‘flash’, and Picasa will show you only the pictures in the folder that were taken with a flash.

How does Picasa do this?

Well, this is listed in the properties of the image.

When you right click a photo in the folder and choose “Properties” from the drop-down menu, it opens a window where all the features of this picture are listed, including whether or not a flash is used when you have taken them.

Auto-contrast/Auto-color/I’m Feeling Lucky

Through the “Auto color, automatically remove the color cast and restore the color balance, while the contrast and brightness remain the same.

Through the “Auto Contrast”, adjust your brightness and contrast automatically to optimum levels, while the color values of the picture remain the same.

The “I’m Feeling Lucky” is again a mixture of the two previously discussed buttons.

Perfection is still questionable after you pursue all this, and you will still have a long way in the right direction.

Retouch

We use the “Retouch” to fix small bumps in a Photograph.

As an example I take a picture of a giraffe in the zoo of Antwerp. Like any proud giraffe he walks neatly where he must walk, keeping his head where he should keep.

What I will do is to teach our giraffe to pierce his ear through the wire.

Oh, I’m not teach him that, I’m Photoshopping his pictures. They call it Photoshopping now, they called it ‘trick’ in my time.

I click the button “Retouch”. In retouche blemishes, you first set the brush size. The smaller you define it, the more precisely you can work.

Then click the area you want to retouch.

Tips:

Zoom in on the place you want to retouch moving the slider to the right.

Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and hold it to the position of the picture in the window to change. They call it Pans.

Then click on the area in the photo that you want to replace in the retouching area.

We repeat this until the very end of the ear is gone.

Should he put his ear through the wire, or should he sit by the wire?

Awesome!
