19/65 Lessons

The use of layers in the slides may be used to display key events in a show. This lesson is an example.
The intention is to show multiple pictures over a period of time with proper spacing between them so that they can be viewed.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 16_Old pictures” by clicking [File]> New Show, changing the title in the Show Title box to “Show 16_Old pictures” and selecting 16:9 as the aspect ratio. Click [Create].

Creating a blank slide

  • Right click on the movie link and select [Insert]> [Blank Slide]. Set the transition time to 0 sec and the duration to 3 seconds.

Photo as Background

  • Double-click the slide and select the [Slide]> [Background].

Select the [On / Off] checkbox to allow the background to be overwritten with a photo. Select the radio button [Image] and click [Select]. This opens the folder list where you can go to the folder “Show 16_Multi layers”. Select the photo “Tribute_03” and open it. This makes it the background for all slides in this show. Then close this menu.

Extra layer in photo 1

  • Select the photo “Old photo_01” from Lesson 16 and drag it, keeping the [Ctrl] key pressed, to the 1st slide. This is our extra layer.

Layer enhancement

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layers Settings]. Slide the “Zoom” up to 70%. With the help of the [Layers]- [Editing] tab, we can edit the layer. Select the [Outline] section, select white and set the thickness of the layer to 2. Give this a black shadow at 75%. Select the [Drop Shadow] section and set the [Opacity] to 75%. Close this menu by clicking the [OK] button.

Copying Slide 1

  • The intention is to display this picture for 3 seconds and then move on. Copying a slide is done in the usual manner. Simply use [Ctrl] + [C] and then [Ctrl] + [V] (copy and paste).

Extra layer in photo 2

  • In the second slide we add the photo “Old foto_02”, as an extra layer.

Organizing and Beautifying the Layer

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]- [Layers Settings].
See the “Old foto_02” under the layer “Old foto_01”. If this is not the order, move this layer. Set the “Zoom” at 70%.
With [Layers]- [Editing] we can also place a white frame around the layer with a thickness of 2 units using [Outline].
Give this a black shadow at 75% opacity using [Drop Shadow].

Moving layers

  • This 2nd layer, is now moved so that it is displayed below the 1st photo which is displayed on the left.
Select [Effects]- [Motion Effects], select the 2nd layer and at the “Ending Position” set the “Pan” at  -33 x -13. Close the window. For 3 seconds, layer 2 will be moved to the left corner.

Copying Slide 2

  • After 3 sec, we need to revert back to slide 2. Copy and paste it next to the current slide as slide 3.

Initial mode = FT

  • We must now make sure that there is no movement for 3 sec. Double-click the slide and select [Effects]- [Motion Effects].
Click the [Copy Motion Effects] button.

Select [Copy End to Start] from the popup menu. This moves the slide from the “Ending Position” to the “Starting Position”. Close the window.

C 3opying Slide

  • For the next 3 sec, we use the 3rd photo and have it emerge from the first picture from the lower right corner. First, copy and paste it next to the current slide as slide 4.

Extra layer in photo 3

  • On this 4th slide we add the photo, “Old photo_03” as an extra layer.

Organizing and Beautifying the Layer

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]- [Layers Settings]. The “Old photo_03” is placed under “Old photo_01” layer. If this is not the case, then move this layer. Set the “Zoom” level to 70%. Click [Layers]- [Editing] to place a white border around the layer with a thickness of 2 units using the [Outline] option. Give this a black shadow with 75% opacity using [Drop Shadow].

Moving layers

  • In the 3rd layer, the 3rd photo emerges below the 1st one and moves to the lower right corner. To do this, select [Effects]- [Motion Effects], select the 3rd layer and in the “Ending Position” section, specify  33 x 13 in the “Pan” option. Close the window. For 3 sec layer 3 will be moved to the right corner.

Copying Slide 4

  • 3 seconds after this, we again display this layer. Copy and paste it next to the current slide as slide 5.

Initial mode = FT

  • We must again ensure that there is no movement for 3 sec.
Double-click the slide and select [Effects]- [Motion Effects].
Click the [Copy Motion Effects] button.

Select [Copy End to Start] from the popup menu. This makes the “Starting Position” equal to the  “Ending Position”. Close this window and this ends our lesson.

Saving the show

  • Saving the show is done by selecting [File]- Save As. With the explorer, select the appropriate folder. Change the File Name to “Show 16_Old pictures” and then click [Save].

Creating a .mpg file

  • This time we create a movie in MPEG format. Just click [Create Output] on the toolbar at the top.
In the window that appears, select [Video File]. The following popup menu will be displayed.

Click on [Create] and place the show in the correct folder on your PC and give it the proper name “Lesson16_Old pictures”
Then the process of creating this film (rendering) starts.
After the rendering is complete, a dialog box will appear stating so.
If you want to view this show, you need to open it from the folder in which it is stored.
