27/65 Lessons

In this lesson, once again we deal with text on the slides.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Finches”. Click [File]> [New show] and change the title in the “Show Title” box to “Finches” and retain the aspect ratio at 4:3. Click [Create].

Dragging Photos

  • Select a few pictures, such as redpoll, bullfinch, Greenfinch, Crossbill, Putter, from “Lesson 23” and drag the selection to the slide list.

A border as an extra layer

  • Select the “Border_4x3” as a layer on the 1st slide, and press the [Ctrl] key while dragging.

Zoom Box

  • We are going to enlarge the frame a little. Double-click the first slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings] and set the [Zoom] at 130%.

Copying the border

  • This border is copied to all slides.

Right click on the layer “Border_4x3” and select [Copy] from the popup menu and then select [Copy to All Slides]

    Click [OK].

Inserting Text

  • Now we insert text.
Double-click the first slide and select [Captions]> [Settings Captions].
Enter “Finches” in the text box. We select Georgia as the [Font], yellow as the [Color] and the RGB values are 251/207/6, the [Size] is 30, and [Alignment] = centered.
We select the [Outline] checkbox and select white as the [Color] and we also select the [Drop shadow] checkbox with white as the [Color]. The text is placed at the top, [Position] = 50 x 10. We do not use text effects.
Tip: Use the [Reset] button if necessary.

Copying Text

  • Also, We are going to copy this text to all slides.

This method allows us to change the copied text for every slide.

Right click on the text layer and select [Copy To] and then [All Slides].

Placing the same text on multiple slides

  • We will place the same text on each slide. A change to this text will be visible directly to all other slides.
Adding text is done by using the [plus] sign button. In the empty text box, enter “A Collection of finches in our yard.”
We keep the same text settings as the earlier one, except that the [Font] is set to 15 and the [Position] is set to 50 x 85, which is the bottom of the slide.
This text with its effects, is now copied to all slides.
Click the 1st button as illustrated, in the text, and it will be placed on all slides. The icon will change to (Show on All Slides).

Changing Text

  • Here we have a bit of typing involved. We go to each slide and change the text, “Finches”. We give each bird its proper name.
Select the appropriate text layer, “Finches”, and change the text to “redpoll”.
If you don’t want to keep reopening the slides, you can use the forward or backward arrows at the bottom of the window to select the previous or next slide.
Enter successively, the names of the different finches on the corresponding slides.

Photo 2 = Bullfinch
Photo 3 = Greenfinch
Photo 4 = Crossbill
Photo 5 = Putter
To exit this screen, click [OK].

Enlarging Photos

  • You will see that all the beautiful finches are not visible in the current context. Therefore, we increase the zoom level and place a border to make it more beautiful. Double-click the first slide. Select [Layer]> [Layer Settings]. Select the layer with the photo of the finch.
By rolling the mouse wheel you can increase or decrease the zoom level. Please see that the layer remains well placed within the border. With the mouse you can drag this layer to the desired location in the frame.
    Eg. [Zoom] = 200; [Position] = 5 x -65.
This allows you to zoom into each slide and / or move the layers wherever necessary.
    After this, click [OK].

Title slide with background and text

  • Now we add a title slide with one of the pictures as a background and enter some text and apply some effects to it.
Right-click the first slide and select [Insert] and then [Title Slide] from the popup menu. The [Slide Options] window will open with the tab, [Captions]> [Caption settings], selected. You can see that the text “Collection of finches in our yard” is already there. However, this is not necessary. Thus we de-select the check box next to this layer. This way nothing will change for the rest of the show and the text is still easily visible on the other slides.
Click the [+] sign to add a text layer and enter “Finches in our garden” in the text box. Adjust the [Size] to 30 (for eg.) and [Rotate] to -45 degrees which is counterclockwise. Turn the [text effects] on.
Select [Slide]> [Background] and place a picture of a finch from Lesson 23 as the background. We select [Colorize] and select gray from the color wheel i.e, (RGB = 128/128/128). Click [OK] to exit.

Introducing Music

  • To round it all off, let’s include music. Select the “.wav” file, Show 23, and drag it to the Soundtrack.
Click the [Timeline] buttonon the toolbar.
Select the track, press the [Ctrl] key so you can see the yellow bar and then adjust the track to this show.

Saving the Show

  • Save this project under the name “Show 23_Finches”.
Click [File]> [Save As], select the appropriate folder in which you want to save this project using the explorer and if necessary change the file name to “Show 23_Finches”.

Movie in AVI format

  • This time we create a movie in an “AVI” format.
Click the button, [Create Output], in the toolbar at the top.
In the window, select [Video File].
In the popup menu, specify the settings as shown below.

Click on [Create] and place the result in the correct folder on your PC and give it the proper name “Lesson23_Finches”.
The movie will be created. Close all popup menus by clicking [OK]. The end result can then be viewed using Windows Media Player.
