Lesson 28: Show 24: Text – Alignment

28/65 Lessons

Here we give a demo of the different alignment options for text.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 24_Alignment”. Select [File]> [New show], and change the file name in the Show Title box to “Show 24_Alignment” and retain the aspect ratio of 4:3. Click [Create].

Dragging a Photo

  • Select the photo “Leaf” from Lesson 24 and drag it onto the slide list.

Inserting Text Layers

  • Double-click the slide and select [Captions]> [Caption Settings]. We create 3 text layers. For layer 1 enter the text ,”Thoreau.” Give it the following setting: [Font] = Arial Unicode MS, [Size] = 46, [Color] = white, and left-aligned [Position] = 13.5 x 17.
  • Click the [+] icon to add an additional text layer and enter the following text:
    “Live each season as it comes;
breathe the air, drink the wine,
taste the fruit, and Redraw yourself
to the influences of each “.
Here we use the following settings: [Font] = Palatino Linotype, [Size] = 10, [Color] = white, left-aligned and [Position] = 34 x 36.
  • Click on the [+] icon again and enter “I”. Here we use the following settings: [Font] = Times New Roman, [Size] = 35, [Color] = white, left-aligned and [Position] = 30 x 33.75.

Alignment examples

  • While specifying the alignment, is good to know where the anchors are. While adding layers, we always use the “Align left” option.
  • Select the 2nd layer along with the text, and select [Alignment] = “centered” and see what happens.
  • Do this with [Alignment] = “right aligned”.
  • You can also try [Alignment] = “Fill Align”. Here a line is filled quite nicely and sometimes there are multiple spaces between words.

Tip: The grid lines can be a useful tool for your text.

Magnifier with Text

  • There is a magnifying glass available to make the text easier to edit. Click on the “Precision preview” icon or use the shortcut [Ctrl] + [p].
In this window you can see and adjust most of the settings. Only the alignment cannot be changed.

Saving the Show

  • Save this project under the name “Show 24_Alignment”.
Click [File]> [Save As], select the appropriate folder using the explorer, and if necessary, change the filename.
