51/65 Lessons

When working with the spot lights as a mask, it is possible to use a single color or different colors. We can even with experiment a photo.

Example 1

Copying a Slide

  • We open [Show 44_Spotlights.psh]. Copy the first example, [Mother & Child] from Lesson 44.

Additional colored mask layer

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. Select the layer [Mother & Child], right click and add a layer [Add Layer], with a solid color, using [Add solid color]. In the menu [Create solid color], select the orange color from the color wheel (RGB = 200/150/85). This layer is part of the mask.

Dimming a layer

  • Under [Layers]> [Editing], we make this layer transparent, by setting the [Opacity] to 50%.
  • Close the window and if you’re playing this show you will see that the spotlight is colored, orange. By selecting another color in the solid layer can give you the spotlight whatever color you want.

Example 2

In the place of the solid color we can also make use of a gradient.

Extra layer mask with a gradient

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. Select the solid layer, right click and select [Add Layer]> [Add Gradient]. In the [Create Gradient] window us the the color wheel to select the pattern at the beginning of the list (1) which has a pinkish color (RGB = 255/138/138) and the one at the end (2) which has a bluish color (RGB = 103/129 / 239).

Dimming a layer

  • Using [Layers]> [Editing] we make this layer transparent, by setting the [Opacity] = 50%. Its best if you de-select the [Solid 2] layer.

  • Close the window and if you play this show, the spotlight will change color. Again, you can select other colors using the gradient options.

Example 3

We can also use an appropriate photo as the spotlight instead of colors.

Additional mask layer with a photo

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. Select the layer, [Gradient 1], right click and add a layer using [Add Layer]> [Add Image or Video]. Search for the photo “Hubble photo_f (1)” in Lesson 44 and open it.

Dimming Photos

  • Using [Layers]> [Editing] we make this layer transparent, setting the [Opacity] = 50%. If you have retained the gradient layer de-select it to get the best result.

  • Close the screen and you get a completely different effect.
