Lesson 52: The main workspace in ProShow Producer

52/65 Lessons

The workspace consists of several panes. Here we learn how you can adapt your workspace to your needs. Almost all sections of the workspace, can be “detached”. This means that they can be detached from the position they occupy in the workspace, and used as individual windows. This gives you the opportunity to completely rearrange the sections, to put together a workspace that suits your convenience or is helpful to work better with ProShow.

Share detached screens

The detaching of a section of the window is as easy as dragging. Try it with the [Slide List]. If you look at the upper left corner of the [Slide List] you will see a board with the name [Slide List] on it. Click and drag this. A portion of the [Slide List] will be displayed as you move the mouse pointer over it. Move your mouse far enough and release the button. The [Slide List] will be placed in a separate window. The [Slide List] has now moved from the original workspace. You can view this pane wherever you want, which can even be another monitor if you have multiple monitors. You can also place the [Slide List] adjacent to the [Folders List]. This gives you more space to view the [preview window] and the [File List].

Use of workspace layouts

The option to move various panes means that the layout can be adjusted according to your wish. What happens if your needs change? You can setup a few custom panels to make it easier for you so that you can work faster.

Proshow has a solution for this. You can save your workspace layout at any time and load it back again whenever you need it. Saving the workspace saves the placement of all ProShow’s panes.

For example: You can create a customized pane that has the [Folders List], [File List] and [Lightbox] which can help you to add content to your show. You could also create a workspace that focuses mainly on the [preview window] without the [Folders List] and the [Lightbox].

Saving the workspace layouts

Once you have created a workspace, you can save it for further reuse.

  • Click [Window] in the menu bar.
  • Select [Save Window Layout] from the dropdown menu.
  • Give the workspace a name and click [Save].

Your layout is now saved.

ProShow will use this layout the next time you open the application. If you would like to reuse this, please select [Load Window Layout] from the same dropdown menu.

Reloading a workspace layout

You can reload a saved layout at any time.

  • Click [Window] in the menu bar.
  • Click [Load Window Layout]
  • Select the layout you want to use.
  • Click [Apply] to apply the layout.

Window layouts are stored in your computer in the [Common application data folder]. This folder is the default location for storing program settings that are generally used. Saved layouts are stored as [DPR files] in the [Window Layouts folder]. Normally you should not use these files.

Restoring the default original workspace

If you’ve experimented with different layouts and then want to restore the default workspace settings, you can do so in the following manner.

  • Click [Window] in the menu bar.
  • Click [Default Window Layout].

Your workspace will be replaced with the default layout for ProShow.
