Lesson 55: Show 47: Vintage cars

55/65 Lessons

Here’s another exercise using keyframes and movements to learn more about this technique.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 47_Vintage cars”. Click [File]> [New Show] change the [Show Title], retain the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click on [Create].

Dragging a Photo

  • Select the picture “Vintage cars” from Lesson 47. Drag it to the slide list.

Adjusting the Slide duration and transition time

  • We set the duration of the slide at 7 sec and the transition time at 1 sec.

Additional layer

  • Now we select “Frame” from Lesson 47 and drag it as an extra layer on our slide.

Zoom

  • Double-click the slide and select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] or click the [Effects] button on the toolbar. Set the [Zoom] of [Keyframe 1] or [Starting Position] to 150%. But, we don’t want any movement in this layer. You can do this by setting the [Zoom] to 150% in [Keyframe 2] or [Final Position] and you can also copy the start value to the end position. Click [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. In order to avoid moving a layer, the easiest way is to change the [Zoom] under [Layers]> [Layer Settings].

Moving layers

  • We are now going to move the [Vintage cars] layer. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. The [Zoom] is slided up from 80% to 100%. The pictures are rotated a little, so set the [Rotate] from 0 to 10%. And now we arrange the position so that the final position fits nicely into the twisted framework. Set the [keyframe 2] at -5 x -2. In this case we select the “Smooth” option in the [Motion Speed] section. This fits well with this slide.
  • Close this window and click [OK].

With the next slide we will work with 3 layers of which 2 are moved. We will work with 2 keyframes per layer.

Introducing Layers

  • From Lesson 47, we drag the photo “Vintage cars” and the PSD “Wheel” as layers to the slide list.

Background insertion

  • We also use a background. Double click on slide 2 and select [Slide]> [Background]. Select [Background type] and use the radio button [Image] and click [Select]. With the explorer, select the “Background” from Lesson 47 and set the [Scaling] to [Fill frame].

Adjusting Layers

  • Before we do this, we will move the first 2 layers a little. Select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. For the layer, [Wheel], place the [Zoom] at 40%. For the layer, [Vintage] place the [Zoom] at 70% and [Position] at 0 x -14. Select [Layers]> [Editing] and then [Vignette].
Click on it and set the [Vignette Size] to 30. The [Vignette Shape & Type] is left unchanged. Click [OK] to close.

Moving Layers

  • Now add the motion effects. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. For the layer, [Vintage], we set the [Zoom] to 70% for [keyframe1] and 80% for [Keyframe 2].
  • The [Wheel] is to be rolled across the screen from left to right, so that the outside of the inner part rolls all the way and on the other side rolls aong with it. We select [Pan] from -65 x 65 for [keyframe 1] and from 30 x 30 for [keyframe 2]. The rotation is done by setting [Rotate] to 0 ° for [keyframe 1] and to 280 ° for [keyframe 2].
  • Now we need to specify the speed of the movements, [Pan] and [Rotate], so that they proceed uniformly. Set the [Motion Speed] to [Linear] for both of them. Click [OK] and if you play the show you will see that the 2 layers move in their own way.

We now make it a little more complicated by moving the wheel to the right and then again to the left.

Copying a slide

  • Copy slide 2 to create slide 3.

Additional keyframe

  • To be able to perform the extra movement we have a new [keyframe] required on this layer, i.e, [Wheel]. Click on [Effects] on the toolbar and select the layer, [Wheel]. Click on [+], [Add keyframe].

This is placed exactly in the middle of the time frame. This is what we need.

Movements between keyframes

  • Now we need to specify the correct movements for the wheel. Between [keyframe 1] and [2], we need to move from left to right. Set [Pan] for [keyframe 1] from -65 x 65 and from 30 x 30 for [keyframe 2] and for [Rotate], from -360 ° to 360 °.
  • Between [keyframe 2] and [3] we go from right to left. Set the [Pan] from -65 x 65 to 30 x 30 and reverse the rotation from 360 ° to -360 °. Here in the [Motion speed] section, we also select “Linear” for [Pan] and [Rotation].

Soundtrack only on slide 2

  • For fun you can still add a sound of an engine. Select “F355 Berlinetta Roar.wav” from Lesson 47, and drag it to slide 2, and not the [Soundtrack]. Do not forget to adjust the slide duration to the duration of the sound. Double-click the slide and in [Sounds]> [Sound Effects] click [Sync Slide].

Saving the Show

  • Save this project now. Click [File]> [Save As] and select the correct folder using the explorer and change the [Name] if necessary. Click [Save].
