Lesson 58: Show 50: Bridge

58/65 Lessons

In this exercise we are going to add color to a photo as in PowerPoint.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 50_Bridge”. Click [File]> [New Show] change the [Show Title], and  retain the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click [Create].

Inserting a blank slide

  • We start by inserting a blank slide.
Right click on the slide list, and select [Insert]> [Blank Slide].

Photo as a background

  • We use a picture as background. Double-click the slide and select [Slide]> [Background]. Select the [Background type] and select the [Image] option under [Type]. With the [Select] button, select the  photo, “Background” from Lesson 50.

Scaling

  • Set the [Scaling] to [Fill Frame]. Click [OK] to exit this screen.

Adjusting the Slide duration and transition time

  • The slide time is set to 10 sec and the transition time to 0 sec.

Dragging a Photo as a layer

  • Select the picture “Bridge” from Lesson 50. Drag this to the slide list as an extra layer.

Moving a layer

  • We move the picture (zoom) and specify a slight rotation. Double-click the slide and select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] or click [Effects] button on the toolbar. We will only work with the 2 standard keyframes. Slide the [Zoom] up from 60% to 80% and set the [Rotate] from -5 to 5.

Duplicate Layer

  • Now we duplicate the layer. Right-click the layer and select [Duplicate Layer].

Decolorizing the layer

  • We are going to remove the color for [Layer 2]. Select [Layer]> [Editing]. Select the [Colorize] checkbox. You will see that the color is gray.

Borders and shadows

  • We now specify a border and a shadow for [Layer 1]. Select this layer, select [Outline], set the [Color] to red, set the [Thickness] to 5, and select the [Drop Shadow] check box and set the  [Opacity] to 75%.

Adding a motion effect during coloring

  • In order to obtain the powerpoint effect we should add a motion effect while coloring. Select [Layer 1] and select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. The movement is realized with a transition effect. Click the [Cut] icon in [Keyframe 1] and from the list of transitions in the popup menu, we select [Radar – Clockwise]. We are going to drag the transition so that it lasts for almost the entire duration of the last slide.
In this example, we set the duration at 9 sec.

Click [OK], close the window and see the result.

Saving the show

  • Save this project now. Click [File]> [Save As] and the correct folder in which you want to save this project using the explorer and change the [File Name] if necessary and click [Save].

This gives you options to transfer the pictures to another presentation. For Example, you can play with other transitions, set another color for the border, and change other settings, which may not only be for the topmost layer, eg, [Opacity] can be 50% for [Layer 2].
