Lesson 60: Show 52: Other special effects

60/65 Lessons

In this lesson, we see some examples of combining key frames and masks and in which we also play with colors.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 52_Specialities”. Click [File]> [New Show] change the [Show Title], and retain the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click [Create].

Example 1:Moving a vertical bar over a photo

Photos and psd files as layers

  • Select the picture, “pixel”, from Lesson 52, and the psd file, “Vertical Bar”, and drag them as layers to slide 1.

Adjusting the Slide and transition times

  • The slide time is set to 4 sec and the transition time to 0 sec.

Enlarging a layer

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. For the layer, [Vertical bar], place the [Zoom] at 115%.

Duplicate Layer

  • Duplicate the layer pixel. Select this layer, right click and select [Duplicate Layer].

Organizing Layers

  • Put the layers in the following order: [Vertical bar] [pixel], [pixel].

Layer opacity and decolorization

  • Select [Layer 3], select [Layers]> [Editing] and set the [Opacity] to 50% and select the [Colorize] checkbox. We work with the standard gray color.

Mask

  • We will now use a mask. Select [Layers]> [Layer Settings], select [Layer 1] and select the [Masking Layer] checkbox. Normally, ProShow selects [Alpha (Transparency)] as the [Mask type]. And that’s OK for us.

Additional keyframes

  • To obtain our effect the beam needs to move over the picture.
Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. On [Layer 1] we have 3 additional keyframes.
Place each one at 1 sec, 2 sec and 3 sec respectively. You can do this by double clicking on the [Keyframes timeline].

Beam motion: Setting keyframes

  • The movement of the beam is specified with the following settings:
    [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = -48 x 0
    [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 72 x 0
    [Keyframe 3]: [Pan] = -48 x 0
    [Keyframe 4]: [Pan] = 72 x 0
    [Keyframe 5]: [Pan] = -48 x 0. 11.
  • Close the window and see the result.

Example 2: Moving a horizontal bar over a photo

Photos and psd files as layers

  • Select the photos, “Ferrari 458 Italia” and “Horizontal Bar” from Lesson 52 and drag them as layers to slide 2.

Adjusting Slide and transition times

  • The slide time is set to 8 seconds and the transition time to 0 sec.

Duplicate Layer

  • Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. Duplicate the layer, [Ferrari 458 Italia].

Organizing Layers

  • Place the layers as follows: [Horizontal bar], [Ferrari], [Ferrari].

Making a layer translucent

  • Select [Layer 3], select [Layers]> [Editing] and set the [Opacity] to 15%.

Mask

  • We are going to use a mask again. Select [Layers]> [Layer Settings], select [Layer 1] and select the  [Layer Mask] checkbox. The [Mask type], [Alpha] is OK for us.

Additional keyframe

  • The beam may again be moved across the picture. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. On [Layer 1] we need an extra keyframe. Place it right in the middle (at 4 sec). The easiest way to do this by clicking [+] [Add keyframe] button.

Moving the beam – Setting keyframes

  • The movement of the beam is done using these settings: [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = 0 x -31 [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 0 x 85 [Keyframe 3]: [Pan] = 0 x -31
  • Close the window and see the result.

Example 3: keyframes and colors

Photo as a layer

  • Select the photo, ‘New York1 “from Lesson 52 and drag it to slide 3.

Adjusting Slide and transition times

  • The slide time is set to 8 seconds and the transition time to 0 sec.

Additional keyframes

  • In the toolbar, click the [Effects] button and select [Adjustment Effects]. We work with 3 additional keyframes. These are placed at 2 seconds, 4 seconds and 6 seconds respectively.

Color Adjustment: Setting keyframes

  • Now let’s play with the colors or by using the [Hue] slider. Use the following settings:

[Keyframe 2]: [Hue] = 25
[Keyframe 3]: [Hue] = 50
[Keyframe 4]: [Hue] = 75
[Keyframe 5]: [Hue] = 100

  • Close the window and see the result.

Example 4: Keyframes and colors

Photo as a layer

  • To further demonstrate the difference between [Hue] and [Colorize] here is an example using [Colorize]. Select the photo, “New York” from Lesson 52 and drag it to slide 4.

Adjusting Slide and transition times

  • The slide time is set to 6 sec and the transition time to 0 sec.

Additional keyframes

  • In the toolbar, click the [Effects] button and select [Adjustment Effects]. Here we have like 2 extra keyframes. Set them at 2 sec and 4 sec.

Setting colors for each keyframe

  • We play with the colors, once again, using the [Colorize] option. Select the [On / Off] button and use the color wheel to select these colors:
[Keyframe 1]: [Colorize], the standard gray color remains
    [Keyframe 2]: [Colorize] = red (RGB 230/26/26)
    [Keyframe 3]: [Colorize] = blue (RGB 30/84/209)
    [Keyframe 4]: [Colorize] = green (RGB 34/213/47).
  • Close the window and see the result.

Example 5: Keyframes and Masks

Photo and psd files as layers

  • Select the photos, “Flower Arrangement” and “Vertical Bar” from Lesson 52 and drag them as layers to slide 5.

Adjusting Slide and transition times

  • The slide time is set to 20 sec and the transition time to 0 sec.

Duplicate layers

  • In the toolbar, click [Layers] and select [Layer Settings]. Duplicate the 2 layers 3 times.

Organizing Layers

  • Place the layers in the following order: [Vertical bar] [Flower Arrangement] etc. ..

Masks

  • We create a mask for every two layers. So for each layer, [Vertical bar], select the [Masking Layer] checkbox. The [Mask type] should always be [Alpha].

Movement for Layers 1 & 2

  • Now we want these bars to rotate on the screen, one after another and stop side by side. To do this, select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] and select [Layer 1], which is the top bar. We let the bar rotate for the first 5 seconds and then place it in its position.
    To do this, create a [Keyframe] at 5 sec and set the [Pan] in the 3 keyframes as follows: [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = 70 x 0, [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 0 x 0, [Keyframe 3] will be equal to [Keyframe 2], i.e, [Pan] = 0 x 0.

Movement for Layers 3 & 4

  • The 2nd bar starts after 5 sec rotates for 5 sec and then moves to its position and waits until the end. Select this 2nd bar, [Layer 3] and drag [Keyframe1] for 5 sec. Create a [Keyframe] with a 10 sec duration and then set the motion as follows: [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = 70 x 0, [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 0 x 0, [Keyframe 3] is again equal to [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 0 x 0.

Movement for Layers 5 & 6

  • The 3rd bar starts after 10 sec rotates for 5 sec and then moves to its position and waits until the end. Select this 3rd bar, [Layer 5] and drag the [Keyframe1] to 10 sec. Create a [Keyframe] at 15 seconds and then set the motion as follows:
    [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = 70 x 0,
    [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 20 x 0,
    [Keyframe 3]: [Pan] = 20 x 0.

Movement for Layers 7 & 8

  • The 4th bar starts after 15 seconds rotates for 5 sec and then moves to its position and waits till the end. Select this 4th bar, [Layer 7] and drag [Keyframe1] to 15 seconds and set the motion as follows: [Keyframe 1]: [Pan] = 70 x 0, [Keyframe 2]: [Pan] = 40 x 0.
  • Close the window and see the result.

Saving the show

  • Save this project now. Click [File]> [Save As] and select the correct folder in which you want to keep this project, using the explorer and change the [Name] if necessary. Click [Save].
