Lesson 7: Show 5: Trimming Music

7/65 Lessons

Music is part of a show. Other than adding a soundtrack to the show, we now go deeper into the trimming of the music. In other words, we go into the details of how to slice the soundtrack so that it accurately fits into our show.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 5_Hansi” by clicking [File]- New Show, changing the title in the popup menu to “Show 5_Hansi” and setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 (Widescreen). Click [Create].
  • We select the built-in explorer “Exercise 05”. We select all the photos and drag the selection to the slide list. For all slides we set the duration times at 4 sec and the transition times at 2 sec.

Blank slide

  • Before the photos we add a blank slide. Select the first photo, right click and select Insert- Blank Slide (Alt + I). The duration is set at 0.5 sec.

End slide

  • We add a title slide at the end. Place the cursor after the last slide on the slide list, right click and once again select Insert- Title Slide. In the text area of the popup menu “Slide Options”, in [Captions]- [Caption Settings] enter the caption of “Servus”. This text, can be edited and moved.
We do this with the following settings:
  • font = Black Aria
  • size = 72
  • color = white
  • bold = selected
  • Text Effects
    • fly in = fade circle out
    • wave = normal
    • fly out = fade flip out
  • Outline: selected and in red
  • Drop shadow: selected and in gray
  • Caption Placement
    • alignment = center
    • position = 50 x 43
    • opacity = 84
    • rotate = -40
  • Use Texture on Caption: selected
  • radiobutton = gradient.
The [Edit Gradient] button is clicked and the following sequence is selected:

We select Masks and Angular and the 7th option in the list.
Furthermore, we apply a texture to the characters of the text:

The duration of this text on the slide is 3 sec.

The same transitions

  • We use the same transitions for all slides of the show. Select the first slide, and then press Ctrl + A. Click on a transition. This gives the popup menu with transitions.
From this, select the transition, “Squares Out – Corkskrew top to bottom” from the folder, “Blocks” and then click [Apply].

Random effects

  • In this exercise we use random effects for all slides. Select all the slides (Ctrl + A) and right click and select Randomize> Randomize Motion Effects> All Effects.

Trimming Music

  • Now comes the part about trimming the music. Select the mp3 of “Show 5” and drag it to the sound track portion of the timeline.

Point to remember: The slide list can be displayed in 2 ways

The slide list can be displayed in 2 ways on the screen:

  • Slide list is the normal view. The button at the top now opens the [Timeline].

  • If the Timeline is selected, then the [Slide List] button is displayed

You can switch between the 2 views by clicking this button in the toolbar or by pressing the TAB key.
With the [Timeline] option you can also easily view the times in your show.

There are 2 ways to trim music and of course you can combine both of them:

Method 1

  • Double click on the music track in the slide list and the “Show Options” window opens with the [Music]- [Show Soundtrack] tab selected.

  • To add music to trim click the [Edit Fades and Timing] opens the following window where the music can be trimmed

  • Here’s a brief overview of the options:
  • Play: Starts the music from the beginning.
  • Pause / Resume: Allows you to pause and resume listening to the music.
  • Stop: This is to stop the music. It is different from pause because you can go no further but it jumps back to the start.
  • Start playback: This is used to determine the beginning of the track.
  • End playback: Lets you determine the end of your piece of music.
  • Zoom: With this slider you can magnify the music.
  • Position: With this slider you can determine your position.
  • Start time: Indicates in seconds where your music starts.
  • Fade in: Specifies in seconds how much “fading” is used. This is useful for the music to start gently.
  • End time: This gives the end time of your chosen piece of music.
  • Fade out: In seconds you determine how much this “fading” you use. With it you can let the music gently fade away.
  • In our example you see the times that we stand here in this exercise. Click [OK] or [Cancel] and then [Done].

Method 2

For this method you need to use the film as a Timeline band listed. Click on the top [Timeline]. This method is especially interesting because visual works and the mouse pointer moves on the soundtrack itself. The disadvantage is that you do not hear what is happening with the music.
How do you work Point the mouse on the music and press the Ctrl key. You will see a yellow frame around the music.

They are then displayed nodes and thus you can drag left, right, down, up, forward, backward and very easily trim the music adapted to the show.

Tips:

Track rapidly shortening

On the soundtrack you can easily shorten a song at the end of your show. Move the mouse pointer at the end of your show in the music field and right click. Then choose “stop track here”.

Remove track

In the same way you remove the song. Choose “Remove Soundtrack”.

Show preserve

  • We will keep this show. We do this with [File]> Save As. With the explorer, select the appropriate folder. Change the File Name “Show 5_Hansi” and click [Save].

EXE with one-button menu

  • The end product is an EXE format, with a menu with a button. Click on the toolbar at the top [Create Output]. In the popup menu, select [PC Executable] and then further select the [Menu]. You can copy the settings as you see in the image below.

  • Click [Create] and the tree put the show in the correct folder on your PC and give it the proper name “Lesson5_Hansi”. Then click on [Save]. The movie is created. Then you’re asked whether you want to see this, click [Yes] and this is the result.
