Status

At the bottom of the document window, we find the status bar.

The document window is actually the part of Dreamweaver, where all changes to the design of a page happen. But I think, we did go through that.

When changes are made in the page, an asterisk character (*) appears next to the name of the document. This tells us that this document is changed, but these changes have not been saved. To remove this asterisk, save the document by clicking on the menu item “File” and selecting “Save” in the drop-down menu.

Back to the status bar.

To the left of the status bar, we have the tag selector.

The tag selector shows the hierarchy of the different tags used in the document.

Clicking a tag in the tag selector, this will select the contents of this tag in our page.

For example, the table is selected in the page when I click on the “<table>” tag in the tag selector.

This aside, a tag is HTML code that begins with a less than sign (<), and ends with a greater than sign (>).

To the right of the status bar, we have a number of buttons.

The first is the “select” tool, which is selected by default. With the selection tool, we select objects in our document. But because this is selected by default, you click this button little or never.

The second is the “Hand”, when we click on it, we can move up or down in the document by clicking and dragging.

You can use the scroll bars or the mouse wheel for the same, so this button also, I have never used. But if you do use this, you must return to the first button (selection button), by clicking, for selecting objects in your page.

The third button, the “zoom” tool, we use to zoom in on certain parts of our page. To zoom back out, hold the Alt key on your keyboard pressed while you click in your document.

Right next to the zoom tool, we have the “Set Magnification” box. Here you can manually enter a zoom percentage or by clicking the downward-pointing arrow, select a preset zoom ratio.

This aside: it’s not like if you set the zoom percentage to 150%, your page in the browser is at 150%. Your page is always displayed in the browser to 100%.

The zoom tool is intended only to help you.

We also have the “Window Size”. Clicking on the downward pointing arrow shows us the size and pixel settinsg of the window to adjust for the monitor type.
Not every visitor to your site has the same size and pixel setting for the monitor, changing this allows us to view the page in different pixel settings and monitor sizes.
This option is for information only and does not affect how your page will look in the browser window.

And last we have some information. On the right we find the download speed of your page and links the number of kb of your page. The download speed displayed is of course dependent on the speed of your modem. Default is set to a 56k modem.

By clicking on the downward pointing arrow next to the field “Window Size” and choosing “Edit Sizes” in the drop-down list, we can change the connection speed in the dialog box that appears:
