Creating a new presentation

In “PowerPoint”, we can create a new “Presentation” in different ways.

We can use the “Auto Content Wizard” (“Auto Content Wizard“), “Template Design” (“Template Design“) or we can start with a “Blank Presentation” (“Blank Presentation“).

In XP and 2003, we open the “Tasks panel”. If it is not visible, click “File” from the menu bar and select “New”.

In the “Tasks Panel”, under the “New” section, we see three different choices.

We will later discuss how we can make a “Presentation” with these three options.

In “PowerPoint” 2000 and ’97, clicking on File from the menu bar and selecting “New” opens a dialog box.

In the ” PowerPoint” ’97, we find three tabs in this dialog: “General” – “Presentation Design” – “Presentations”

In the “PowerPoint” 2000, we find three tabs in the diaog: “General” – “Design Templates” – “Presentations”

The Auto Content Wizard (Auto Content Wizard)

If we want to make a “Presentation” that is good, sometimes we need to make too many adjustments. For this we can use the “Auto Content Wizard” (“Auto Content Wizard“).

The “Auto Content Wizard” will ask us a few questions which we need to answer.

When we answer a question, we click the “Next” button (“Next“).

If we have gone through all the windows, we click the “Finish” button.

The “Auto Content Wizard” is actually quite simple, even for the absolute beginner.

The answers we give in our “Auto Content Wizard” will create a “Presentation” that we can customize with personal information.

On the left we find the different “Slides”.

We select them one by one and change according to our wish.

To add a “Slide” we click on “Insert” from the menu bar and choose “New Slide “.

To remove a “Slide”, we select the “Slide”, click Edit from the menu bar and select “Delete Slide “.

Then, we save the “Presentation” and that’s all we need to do.

Our first “Presentation” is ready.

The Template Design (Template Design)

In 2003 and XP, click “File” from the menu bar , click “New” and choose the “Design Templates” (“Design Templates“) option in the “Tasks Panel”.

When we change the “Slide Design”, we can see all the available templates in the “Tasks panel”.

When we click the arrow that appears when we select a template, a dropdown menu is displayed where we can choose if we want to apply this to all “Slides”, or only the selected ones.

When we want to do the same version in ’97, we select the “Presentation Design” tab in the dialog and in the 2000 version, we choose the “Design Templates” tab.

When we select a template in the left half of the dialog, we see an example of it in the right half.

Click OK when you are satisfied.

This brings us to the “Slide layout” (“Auto Content“).

The Slide Layout (Auto Content)

When we are not satisfied with the “Slide Layout” properties of our “Slides”, we can alter this arrangement.

When we apply the “Slide layout”, we determine the location of the texts, videos and graphics.

In ” PowerPoint” ’97 and 2000, we must enter the “Slide layout” after selecting the template.

We can always adjust this later to our wishes.

To change a “Slide layout” in 2000 and ’97, we select “Format” (“Format“) from the menu bar and choose “Slide Layout” (“Slide Layout“)

In the “Slide Layout” (“Slide Layout“) dialog , we make our selection and click “Apply” (“Apply“)

To change a “Slide layout” in 2003 and XP, we click on the right side of the “Tasks panel” and we choose “Slide Layout” (“Slide Layout“) from the dropdown menu.

From the list of possible formats, we click one of the choices that we want to apply.les02_image05_en

And choose “Apply to Selected Slides” (“Apply to Selected Slides“).

What we have left to do now is to type in the information that we want to include.

We can do this by double clicking on the text in our “Slides”.

A blank presentation (Blank Presentation)

We make our “Blank Presentation” in 2003 and XP, by clicking on “Blank Presentation” (“Blank Presentation“) in the “New” section in the “Task Panel”.

A blank “Slide” appers and we can customize the layout completely as per our own wishes.

To create a “Blank Presentation” “Slide” in 2000 and ’97 we click the “Blank Presentation” icon in the “General” tab in the “New Presentation” dialog box.
