New in IE9

Internet Explorer 9 Download Manager has an integrated way to open, store and process the files that you download.

Download Manager shows the status of your downloads, indicates whether or not they could be harmful, shows where they are placed, and performs a number of security checks on them.

An example will make this all clear.

So we surf to a page where you can download any file.

When you click on the file to download (1), several buttons plus the name of the file and file size appear at the bottom a bar (2).

You can at any moment resume whatever you were doing on the Internet. For example if you continue to surf, the download bar will remain open until you close it.

Depending on the file type, you can open the file or save it by clicking the respective buttons.

Click the downward pointing arrow next to “Save” button, and choose “Save As” if you want to save the file to a location other than the default location.

When you are downlaoding a large file, you can use the pause button.

By clicking this button you can pause the download and continue later.

You can use this when you are downloading a movie or any big file.

If the file is downloaded, it will be listed in the download bar.

If you click the “Open” button, the file is opened.

If you click the “Open Folder” button, then the folder where the file was saved will be opened.

If you click the “View Downloads” button, then it would open the Download Manager.

In this example, I want to open the download manager, so I click the “View Downloads” button.

In the dialog box that appears, you see all the files you have downloaded.

If you have already downloaded a lot of files and that you feel as if you are walking through a forest, do not worry, you could use the search box to search for a particualar file.

If you wish to delete a single download, move your mouse pointer over the file, and click the red cross icon that appears.

If you want to delete the entire list, click the “Clear List” button.

If you want to modify the default location of the downloaded files, click the “Options” button.

In the dialog that appears, click the “Browse” button, and choose a new location for the storage of the files.

As you notice in this window you have the option “Notify me …”.

Un-check this box if you do not wish to be notified.

Another way to open the Download Manager is by clicking on the “Tools” and selecting “View Downloads”.
