Moving pictures

I already showed you in lesson 2, how to move a photo from one folder to another folder in Picasa.

If you have forgotten, you select the photo or photos in the workspace and drag it to another folder in the Folder List.

When the mouse is released, Picasa will show you a warning window asking if you’re sure.

Click the button “Yes” if this is the case.

When you move a photo in Picasa, it will be literally transferred on your computer.

Rename photos

To change the filename of one or multiple photos, select the photo (s), click the “File” button in the menu bar and select “Rename”.

The shortcut for this is the F2 key on your keyboard.

In the dialog that appears, type the new name in the textbox.

You can add a date and resolution to the filenames if you wish.

This first is useful when you have selected several photos and give them all the same new name. This option places the date and time into the filename, so it gets yet another name.

Click the button “Rename” when you’re done.

As you can see in below image have all selected photos have the same new name, but the difference in the filenames is the time in the filename.

Add keywords

We have the opportunity to add keywords to a photo in Picasa.

This is useful when our library consists of hundreds maybe thousands of photos, and we are looking for a picture on a particular topic.

To add one or more keywords to a photo, select the photo, click the button “View” in the menu bar and choose “Tags” in the drop-down menu.

In the “labels” that appear, type a keyword and click the “Add” button.

You can add as many keywords as you want.

If you want to delete a keyword, select the keyword in the list of labels, and click the “Delete” button.

Click the “Done” button when you’re done.

You can do the same when you have the same keywords for multiple photos.

The only difference is that, select all the individual pictures in the workspace and click View in the menu bar and select the “Labels” from the drop-down menu.

Assess Photos

When we have some photos in the Picasa library that are preferred, we can provide a star.

Select the preferred photo in the library, and click the “Add / Remove Star” button at the bottom left of the Photo Tray.

The pictures that you’ve added a star to show an icon of a star in the thumbnail of the photo in the workspace.

If you have several photos to which you want to assign a star, it is the same again, first select all the photos and click the “Add / Remove Star” button.

If you want to remove a star from a picture, I do not know why, maybe it is with your love or something, select the picture and click the “Add / Remove Star” button again.

Images which are given a star are automatically placed in an album. More about albums in the next lesson.

Remove photos

If you want to remove a photo, maybe because it was never good, then select the photo in the workspace and click the delete key on your keyboard.

A warning window appears asking whether you are sure you want to remove this picture. If you choose “yes”, then the picture is placed in your trash and the only possibility to recover is to open the trash and right click picture and choose “Restore” in the drop-down menu.

If you remove the photo from the trash, then it is gone once and forever.

To delete multiple photos, first select all the photos in the library. But I think you had already found that out by yourself.

Awesome!
