Lesson 16: The Bridge (3)

Your own Workspace

In this lesson I’ll show you how to save your own workspace. A workspace is, for those who do not know, the current settings for size and position of panels and thumbnails.
There are some values established by Photoshop by default.

To see all this, place the mouse pointer on the bar on the “Application Bar” and when it changes into a double arrow, click and drag it to the left (1).

A second way is the downward pointing arrow button on the right side of the “Application Bar”. This opens a drop-down menu where you can find several preset workspaces (2).

When you’ve spent some time in the composition of a workspace, I can imagine that you would want to save this for later use, without you having to go through all this work again.
To create a private workspace, we start from an existing workspace.

By clicking and dragging the tabs of the panels, you can change their position.
We can see or hide the panes by clicking “Windows” in the menu bar and selecting the appropriate panels from the list.

To add a workspace, click the downward pointing arrow (1) and click the “New Workspace” (3).

Enter a name for the workspace, and click the “Save” button (4).

From now on your own workspace is added to the list (5).

From now on, your workspace is added to the list (5) and you just need to select it if you want to work in your own environment.

Keywords

We use Keywords to make it easy for ourselves to find or filter a picture about a certain topic.

When we open “Keywords” pane, we see that a number of standard keywords have already been added by Photoshop.

To add a keyword to one or multiple photos, select the photo (s) and right click the keyword in the “Keywords” panel.

Select “New Keyword” or “New sub keyword” depending on what you want to do from the drop-down menu (1).

Then type the name of the keyword (2) and select the keyword (3).

This will add a tag to all your selected photos. If you want to grant multiple keywords to a photo, no problem, first select the photo (s) and then select the keyword in the panel.

The same way you do with the buttons at the bottom of the panel (4).

If you want to delete a keyword from a photo, select the photo and you remove the checkmark for the keyword in the panel.

Ratings

Another way to share our pictures is by awarding a “Rating”.

To give a rating to one or multiple photos, select the photo (s), click “Label” in the menu bar and choose the number of stars you wish to grant to the picture (s).

You know what to do with the “Increase Rating” and “Decrease Rating” options.

A second way is to select the pictures and assign the number of stars below the thumbnail (2).

TIP

If you wish to give the ratings for a photo in full-screen mode, you click the Spacebar on your keyboard. This gives the image at full screen.

Click the button 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on your keyboard to provide a rating for the photo.

Click the arrow keys on your keyboard to move to the next or previous photo.

Click the Esc key on your keyboard to close the full screen size.
