Lesson 26: Color corrections (6)

26/84 Lessons

Hue / Saturation

Another option to perform color corrections is using the “Hue / Saturation”.
This option can be found under “Image” in the menu bar, choose “Adjustments” in the drop-down menu and click “Hue/Saturation”.

We can also open the “Adjustments” panel and click the second icon on the middle row.

Whatever you do, does not matter, the “Hue / Saturation” panel is opened.

By dragging the scroll bars “hue” and “Saturation”, we can change the colors of our photos. A problem, however, is that we modify all the colors in our picture. So we start again.

To take the picture back with the original colors, click the button “Reset to Adjustment Defaults” (1), this is the button next to the trash icon in the menu bar of the “Adjustments” panel.

To change only the color of the shirt, click the downward-pointing arrow in the upper section (2) and choose a hue in the list.

In this case, it is easy, it is blue, blue of the shirt.

But suppose it is a hue that is not in the list.

Then remember the color wheel that I’ve shown in the previous lesson in mind and choose a color that best adapts to the color that needs to be changed.

And you select this shade in the drop-down menu.

At the bottom of the dialog you see two color bars (1), with a darker gray bar between them and two blocks on the left and right of it.

Now, all colors that are on the darker gray bar change when we change the sliders of “Hue” and “Saturation”.

All colors that lie between the two blocks are not changed.

I hope you can still follow.

We can increase or decrease the range of colors by clicking and draggind the edges of the darker gray bar. Or you can also move by dragging the bar.

Same goes for the two blocks next to the darker gray bar, we can drag them to expand the color range.
Click OK when you’re happy with your settings.

Oh yeah, Oh yeah, if you have a second color (2) that you want to add, you hold the Shift key on your keyboard pressed while you move the mouse pointer over the image and click it.

Awesome!
