The “Saturation Change”

Another way to adjust the “Saturation” and “Hue” is by means of the “Saturation Change” knob. Well, that is not called a knob actually, but because it has no name, I gave it that name.
This button is new in Photoshop CS4 and we find this in the “Hue/Saturation” dialog.

To use, select it first in the dialog, and then click and drag in the photo on the color that you want to increase or decrease the saturation.

You use the same button as when you are adjusting the hue of a color in the picture.

Only you hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard pressed.

The option “Vibrance”

Also new in Photoshop CS4 is the “Vibrance”.
With this option, we adjust the saturation, so that the colors are cropped as little as possible, as the colors can be completely saturated. This adjustment makes the saturation of less saturated colors more elevated than that of the colors that are already saturated.

Vibrance also prevents skin tones to become saturated.

To apply this option, click the “Image” in the menu bar, choose “Adjustments” in the drop-down menu, and click “Vibrance …”

Or when you’re working with adjustment layers, you will find this button in the “Adjustments” panel, first button in the second row.

If you want to apply more adjustment to less saturated colors and want to avoid trimming colors when they reach total saturation, you can just drag the “Vibrance” slider to the right.

If you want to apply the same amount of saturation on all colors, regardless of their current saturation, you can just drag the Saturation slider.

If you want to decrease the saturation, you can just drag the “Vibrance” slider or the “Saturation” to the left.

Awesome!
