The “Deleted Items” folder

The “Deleted Items” folder contains all the deleted items (emails, tasks, etc. ..) .
Items in this folder can be removed for good, or be replaced in the original folder.
When you use the 2003 version you can open this folder by clicking in the navigation panel on the “Mail” folder, and by selecting the “Deleted Items”.
When you use the versions XP or 2000, choose the Outlook bar in the “Outlook” folder, and click the “Deleted Items” folder.
You can create the “Deleted Items” folder in the folder list too.
To open the folder list, choose “View” – “Folder List” in the menu bar.
To delete an item from a folder, select the item and click the “Delete” button on your keyboard. The item is now moved to the “”Deleted Items” folder.

To retrieve a deleted item

If an item was accidentally deleted and need be put back in place, right-click on the item that is now in the “Deleted Items” folder and select “Move to Folder”.
From the “Move Item” pop-up, choose the folder where you want to put it back.

Removing items for good.

If you want to remove an item from the “Deleted Items” folder easily, right click the item in the “Deleted Items” folder and choose “Delete” from the dropdown menu.
A warning window is displayed asking if you want to delete the item permanently.
Click “Yes” if you wish.
Once it is removed from the “Deleted Items” folder, it is gone forever.

Automatically delete items

You can set up Outlook so that “Deleted Items” are permanently removed automatically when you exit Outlook.
Just click “Tools” – “Options” in the menu bar.
In the “Options” dialog, choose the “Other” tab.
Click the check box for the text “Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting”
When you choose this option, keep in mind that if you have accidentally deleted an item, and close Outlook, the item is lost for good.
Click OK when you are satisfied with your settings.
