Using “AutoText”

“AutoText” can automatically detect text in our “Document”.
This feature was developed specifically for “Word” and it is only available in “Word”.
“AutoText” is more a language tool namely, the frequently used text fragments are automatically generated while typing.
For example:
We make a auto text fragment called “Address” that indicates that it contains the name and address of our company.
Every time we have to retype the information of our company, we only type address. After four characters have been typed (say Adre), “Word” fills our auto text fragment for us to insert.

We click on the “Enter” key on our keyboard when we want to accept.
We just continue typing if we want to ignore.
A useful and time saving feature.
Let us see how we should do it.

Insert and delete “AutoText”

First we type the text that we want to use as “AutoText” in our “Document”.
Then we select all the text that we want into our “AutoText”.
We click on “Insert” (“Insert“) in the menu bar and choose “AutoText” (“Autotext“) from the dropdown menu.

This opens the dialog with “AutoCorrect” tab in the foreground

In the upper section of the tab we give our “AutoText” entry a name, and click the “Add” (“Add“) button.
That’s it.
Easy, huh?

As you see in the list, a number of frequently used texts are included as “AutoText” with “Word”.

To delete a text fragment, select it in the list and click the “Delete” (“Delete“) button.

We can do the same for images, eg our logo.
We first insert our logo in our “Document”, select it and click on “Insert” (“Insert“) in the menu bar and choose “AutoText” (“Autotext“) from the dropdown menu.

You see the logo appear in the “Preview” window, which incidentally was the case with the text in the previous example.
Click on the “Add” (“Add“) button.
To add this logo now type the first letters of the “AutoText” entry, and click the F3 key on your keyboard.

Awesome!
