“Page breaks” and “Section breaks”

“Word” automatically inserts a “Page break”. Sometimes a page break is inserted at a very inconvenient place.
For example, the title of a paragraph is at the end of a page, and the paragraph text is on the next page.
We can not delete automatic “Page Break” in “Word”, but we can insert a “Page Break”.
To create a “Page Break” manually, we place our cursor at the point where we want the “Page Break”, and click on the “Ctrl” “Enter” key on our keyboard.
Whether we click “Insert” – “Page Break” from the menu bar, choose the option “Page Break” in the pop-up window, and click OK.

A “Section break” is like a “Page Break”, but with a “Section break” we can do the same for each section with different margins, different directions or different footers and headers.
There are three different types of “Section break”(s).

les07_image02_en

“Next Page” (“Next Page“), which is the same as a “Page Break”, but it creates two separate sections.
“Continuous” (“Continuous“), adds a “Section break”, but begins the next section on the same page.
“Odd Page” (“Odd Page“) and “Even Page”(“Even Page“) adds a “Section break” and then begins the next section on the next odd or even pages.

We can see the page breaks by clicking on the “Show/Hide” button Image25 in the “Standard toolbar”.
We can remove “Page Break”(s) by double-clicking, so these are selected, and press the “Delete” button on our keyboards.

“Header and Footer”

We use “Header and Footer” on each page in order to repeat certain elements:

  • Click on “View” (“View“) in the menu toolbar
  • Click “Header and Footer” (“Header and Footer“)
  • “Word” automatically switches over to the “Page view”
  • We see a dotted header and footer frame on our screen

This also opens the “Header and Footer” toolbar:

  • With the “Header or Footer” button we switch from “Header” to ” Footer”
  • Using the”Next” and “Previous”, we switch to previous and next “Header and Footer”.
  • With the “As last” button, we make a copy of the previous “Header” or “Footer”
  • With the “Page number”, we have a field for the automatic page numbering
  • Using the “Date and time”, we can insert the current “Date and time”
  • With the “Page Setup” button open the “Page Setup” dialog box’
  • With the “Page number” format, we change the formatting of the page numbers ( here also you have several choices)
  • With the “number of pages”, we set the “number of pages” in the file that are to be displayed
  • With the “Insert Auto-text”, we can insert text (author etc.)
  • With the ‘close’, we close the “Header and footer” section

When we are in the “Header and Footer” view, we can find the text in our “Document” does not adjust.
And when we are in the “Normal View” can we find our “Headers and Footers” do not adjust.

“Headers and footers”

We can see the time, date, page numbers and other typical information by clicking the appropriate button.
When we click the “Insert Auto Text” (“Insert Auto Text“), we see a list of frequently used text for the “Header and Footer” that we can choose from.

les07_image06_en

And we can just type in some text in the “Header and Footer” Frames.
We can format the text as we would format our “plain text”.

Alternate “Headers and Footers”

We can have different “Headers and Footers” in the odd and even pages set in “Page Setup” dialog box.
To do this we click the “Page Setup” button in the “Header and Footer” toolbar, or click on “File” (“File“) – “Page Setup” (“Page Setup“) in the menu bar.

les07_image07_en

In the “Headers and Footers” section (“Headers and Footers“), we tick the “Different odd and even” box.
When we have made the choices, we click on OK.
This brings us back to the “Headers and Footers” (“Header and Footer“) view.
Here we give the different “Headers and Footers” for even and odd pages.

Different “Headers and Footers”

We can also have a different “Header and Footer” for the first page, if we wish, in the “Page Setup” dialog box.
To do this, check the “Different first page” box.

les07_image08_en

And we click OK.
This brings us back to the “Headers and Footers” (Header and Footer) display, Where we enter the information for the first page, and the following pages.

If we wish to close the display of “Headers and Footers”, we click the “Close” (“Close“) button in the “Header and Footer” toolbar.

“Page Setup”

To open the “Page Setup” menu we click on “File” (“File“) – “Page Setup” (“Page Setup”) in the menu bar.
In version 2003 and XP, we have three tabs: “Margins”, “Paper” and “Layout”.

les07_image09_en

In version 2000 and ’97, we have four tabs: “Margins”, “Paper Size”, “Paper Source” and “Layout”.

les07_image10_en

In the “Margins” tab, we give the different margins for the top, bottom, left and right of our “Document”.
Below we can see the Gutter and determine the position of the gutter.
The gutter is the space that is left open for binding “Documents”.

For version 2003 and XP, we have the “Portrait” (“Portrait“) or “Landscape” (“Landscape“) buttons, which is clear.
And we will find a dropdown button “Apply”, where we can choose between: The entire “Document” (“Whole Document“), or a selected section of the “Document” (a part of document must be selected for this option), or from a specified section (This point forward).

In the “Paper” tab (“Paper“), as in 2003 and XP versions, we select the size of the paper to begin printing.
In “Word” ’97 and 2000 we find this on the “Paper Size” tab (“Paper size“).

We also determine which paper feed we want to use, for the first page and other pages.
In “Word” 2000, and ’97 this setting is defined in the “Paper Source” tab (“Paper source“)

In the “Layout” (“Layout“) Tab, we determine the vertical alignment of text in our “Document”.
We can also determine whether we wish to have borders and line numbers.
