The “Read more …” option

When the article is too long for a single page, you can divide this into two parts by using the “Read more …” button.
The first thing you do is to open the article. Just click on the “Article Manager” button in the “Control Panel”, and select the newly created “Home” Page.
Place the cursor at the location in the text where this division is to be made, and click on the “Read more …” button at the bottom of the text editor.
This displays a red line in place of the cursor.
Click on the “Save” button and in the first section, click on the “Refresh” button or press the F5 key on your keyboard.
As you see in the image below, a “Read more …” link was added. If you click on this link, the entire article will be displayed.

Those of us who work with the English version of Joomla, will obviously have “Read more …” displayed.

Whether you’re working with the English version or the Dutch version, the text “Read more …” can be changed to anything else.

To do this, open the advanced parameters for this text in the text editor.
At the bottom, in the “Alternative Read More Text” text box enter the required text, eg “More info …”

Click on the “Save” or “Apply” button and then refresh the page in the frontend, to see the result.

I will elaborate on these parameters in subsequent lessons, but now, since you already know about this link, you can customize it.

Adding a Link to a Menu

:

When you’re developing a website, it is likely that you will need a menu with various links to different pages.

As an example, I added an article with different personnel.
To add an item, click the “New Item” button in the control panel.
Enter a title, select the “Yes” check box under the “Published” section but for the” Front Page ” section, we select “No”. We can not do everything on the home page.
For the “Section” and “Category” fields, select “Uncategorized”.
Click the “Save” button.

This brings us back to the “Article Manager” page, where the new article is added.
As you can see, the article is published but it does not appear on the front page.
So you should use a link, provided in the menu.

Just click “Menu” in the “Menu bar” and select “Main Menu” from the drop-down list.

In the “Menu Item Manager” click “New”.

We will continue in the next lesson.
