Creating Sections:

To organize the various articles written in “Joomla”, we place them in categories and sections.
Let me first explain how this actually works.
Suppose you have written so many articles that its very hard for you to find a specific article.
When you put all these items in a category, and place the categories in a section, then you, and the visitors of your site find it a lot easier to find specific articles.

In the example below I have written 22 articles, which include, 13 articles about trees, 6 articles on tooling and 3 articles about promotions. 22 items are obviously not as cluttered as 100, but suppose you have a hundred, then it becomes something more time consuming to find a particular arrticle.
To solve this problem, we place these items in a category and put the category in a section.
In this example, the section entitled “Trees” has four categories: “Carmona”, “Cycas”, “Ficus” and “Ligustrum”.
The section “Tools” has two categories: “Scissors” and “Pliers” and the section “Promotions” has only one category, “Products”.

You can add categories and sections to “Joomla” at any time, the only requirement being that you should first add a section and then a category that belongs to this section.

You can assign a category to an existing product or a new product.

Normally, you first create sections and categories and then articles, but the reverse is also possible. The only disadvantage is that you have to open the item again, in order to fill the section and category for that particular item.

I’ll start at the beginning, i.e adding a section.

Just click on the “Section Manager” button in the “Control panel”(1), and click “New” (2) in the standard toolbar.

In the “Section: New” enter a title in the “Title” (1) text box and click “Save”(2).

This places our first section, “Trees” in the “Section Manager”. This was not difficult.

I repeat this procedure for the “Tools” and “Promotions” sections.

In the next lesson we will add our categories.

Awesome!
