Folders

When we have imported pictures into Lightroom, they are placed in folders in a catalog.
Let me start by talking about the folders.

When you want to bring certain photos from a folder to a subfolder, right click the folder and select “Create folder inside ..” in the pop-up menu.
If you have selected photos in the folder, you can immediately place them in the subfolder to be created, by selecting the “Selected Photos” option.
Click the button “Create”.

When you go look in Lightroom or on your hard drive, you will see that an additional folder is created.

If you remove a folder in Lightroom by right-clicking and selecting “Delete”, then this folder will be removed from Lightroom, not from your hard drive.
This can be seen in the image below.

However, if you remove a photo in a folder, Lightroom will ask you if you only wants to remove it from Lightroom or even from your hard disk.

Rename photos

If you want to change the name of one or more photos in your folder, first select all of these pictures and then click the F2 key on your keyboard.
In the dialog that appears, choose a “File Naming”, and enter a name for the files and give a “Start Number”.
The later is applicable only when you want a whole series of photos with a different name.
Click OK when you’re done.

When you look in Lightroom or on your hard drive, you will see that the names of all these pictures have been changed.
