Lesson 72: Smart Tags

72/72 Lessons

What are “Smart Tags”?

By using “Smart Tags”, we can save time to carry out certain actions such as sending an email.
We can add “Smart tags” to labels, text boxes, list boxes and combo boxes in a form or a report.

A “Smart Tag” can be identified by the small triangle in the form or report.
When the mouse pointer moves over it, an icon with a downward pointing arrow appears.
When you click this button, it displays a drop-down menu with different actions.
To activate an action, click it in the drop-down menu.

To create a “Smart Tag”, you first go to “Design View”.
Select the control for which you want to add the “Smart tag”.
Click the “Property Sheet” button in the “Ribbon”. If you forgot where to find it, this is under the “Design” tab.
In the “Properties window”, select the “Data” tab and click the button with three dots at the far right of the “Smart Tags” box.
This opens the “Smart Tags” dialog, with the different types of smart tags.

When you select a “Smart Tag”, you can view the details in the lower part of the dialog.
Click OK when you’ve made your choice.
Save the changes and go to “Form View”.

Place the mouse pointer over the triangle in the field, click the downward pointing arrow next to the icon that appears and click the action you want to try.
