Lesson 45: Subforms (cont 3…)

45/72 Lessons

Standard “Control” Features

Each “Control” that we add to our “Form” has its standard properties, such as size, font, background color etc.
You can change these default properties, so that we do not always have to set those same characteristics, when we add the same “Control” again and again.

To change, you first go to “Design View” and add a “Control” to your “Form”.

For example, a text box.

So, I click the “Text Control” in the “Ribbon” and click and drag in the “Form” where I want to place it.
Format this text box as you wish, in the “Properties window” and with the formatted “Control” selected, click the “Set Default Controls” button in the “Ribbon”.

Now, whenever you insert a text box in your “Form”, this will have the same format.
This is only valid for the “Form” in which you have entered this default value, not for a new or different form.

Manage attachments

In the beginning of this course, we had an “album” table of songs that I have in different cabinets.
This table also had a field with data type “Attachment” to insert a photo.
Now, this part of the lesson is about the attachments.
So first I open my “Music” database and make a form for the “Album” table.
All very simple.
Then I get this:

When I select a photograph, or rather an “Attachment”, it displays a menu bar with three buttons.
The first two are to navigate between the various attachments, if any, of course.
When we click the third button with the paperclip, a dialog appears where we can add, delete, or save multiple attachments.
These attachments need not be just pictures but, also “Word” documents or “PowerPoint” presentations, or I do not know what else.

Select the “Attachment” in the dialog and click on the “Open” button to open the file.

Click the OK button when you’re done.

Awesome!
