Headers and footers

We use headers and footers on each page, in order to repeat certain elements:

  • click “View” the Toolbar menu.
  • click “Header and Footer “
  • The screen automatically switches over to the Word’97 page view
  • we see a dotted frame for the header and the footer on our screen

  • “Header and Footer “is immediately shown on the Toolbar with the various buttons
  • With the “Header or Footer” button Word switches from the header to the footer
  • using the ‘next view’ and ‘previous view” we can switch to the previous and next header and footer.
  • When the “previous” button is selected we make a copy of the previous header or footer.
  • with the ‘page numbers’ we select a field for automatic page numbering.
  • using the “Date and Time” icon we can see the current date and time.
  • with the ‘Page Setup’ option the “Page Setup” dialog box is opened.
  • With the “Page Number” button we can set the page numbering (we also have several options here)
  • with the ‘Insert Page Count’ the number of pages in a file are displayed.
  • with the ‘text display’ option the display of the main text on the page is turned on or off.
  • with the “Insert Auto Text” button we can insert texts. (author etc.)
  • with the ‘close’ we close the header and footer area.

Headers and footers are automatically provided with tabs. You can manually move or delete these tabs if you do not like them.

  • place the cursor in the position where you want to insert something and press a button or type text.

When formatting the data in headers and footers, you can always change the buttons on the Formatting toolbar (font, point size, style, etc.) .

We can use lines to define header and footer :

  • select the text
  • click on the arrow next to the “Edge Format” button
  • choose the desired line button.
