Find, replace and navigate

In Word, we have two options for starting a search:

  1. Through the menu toolbar
  2. By clicking on the navigation Selector (see below)

CLick the Edit menu on the ‘Search’

 

In the dialog there are 3 tabs: “Find”, “Replace” and “Go To”

The ‘Find tab (See figure above)

  • Type the text you want to search
  • click on “Find Next”

The ‘Replace’ tab

  • In the first line, type the word that you want to replace
  • In the second line, type the word that you want to replace the first word with
  • Click “Find Next”
  • Click on ‘Replace’ to change the word, click ‘Replace All’ if you want to change all words

We can also replace “Formatting”:

  • Choose from command ‘Replaced’ from the “Edit” menu.
  • We place our cursor in the “Find” but do not type anything.
  • Click on the Format toolbar button and click on the ‘Bold’ and the ‘Italic’ icons.

The bold and italic options are listed in the notification area that appears below the “Find” box.

  • Click “Replace By”.
  • Click in the toolbar, choose the bold, italic and underline buttons on the Format Toolbar.

These formatting characteristics are listed in the notification area.

  • Click ‘Find Next’
  • Click ‘Replace’

Find and Replace Tabs, paragraph marks, section breaks, etc.

  • Click on the ‘Show / Hide’  button
  • Click on Edit option in the menu bar
  • Click on ‘Replace’
  • Click on ‘More’

An extended dialog box opens up

  • Click on the “No Format” option to remove the formatting characteristics
  • Click on the ‘Special’ and select “Paragraph mark”

  • Click on the Tab Key

The cursor jumps to the ‘Replace’ box

  • Click “Find Next”

If you want to know how to keep the paragraph mark then click “Find Next”
If you want to delete a paragraph mark then click ‘Replace’

‘Go To’ Tab

In the tab ‘Go To’ we can set the menu to the option where you want to go:
a section, a page, a line, a comment etc ….

Navigate (Browse)

Click on the ‘Navigation Selector’ at the bottom right of the slider

In Word, we can navigate in various ways through a document.

  • Click your mouse pointer over the icon, for example, ‘Browse by Heading’, “the blue arrows”.
  • Now click on an arrow up or down, then browse your Word’97 by heading of the document
