Insert Pictures

In Word, we can easily insert and edit images. Word by itself has a number of pictures, in the Clipart folder.
To insert Clipart image, we first place the cursor at the place where we want to insert the image.

  • click on the Insert menu
  • click on Picture
  • choose “Clip Art” … from the submenu

(If this is not the case, you will get a notice that the graphics filter is not available and that you will need to run Word Setup again and install the filter)

 

  • slide the pointer over the picture you want to insert
  • click the arrow on the picture
  • click ‘copy’
  • place your mouse pointer over the place in Word where you want to insert the image and
  • click ‘paste’

Certain blocks, (“format handles”) appear around the figure, this means that the figure has been selected.
The ‘Picture’ menubar appears.
If you click anywhere else on the sheet, it will disappear
To return to the picture menu, select the picture.
To delete the picture, first select the picture and press the “Delete” button.
To change or  resize the picture, select the picture, place the mouse pointer over one of thesizing handles  on a vertex, and drag with the left mouse button, diagonally to the achieve desired format.

  • Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the picture, choose Format Picture (Format Picture) to see a more extensive menu.

In the “Format Picture” dialog box, we have 6 tabs to set the properties of the picture to suit our liking.
We will discuss several possibilities:

Picture Control:

You can choose whether you want the picture to be displayed in color, grayscale, black / white, or as a watermark.

Crop:

If we want to select only a portion of a picture, we can do so accordingly.

  • select the picture
  • click on the “Crop” button
  • with the left mouse button drag the resize handle anticlockwise till the table with the computer is disappered.

To view the picture in full again, repeat the same sequence in reverse order.

Wrap Text:

To wrap the text around the picture in different directions we have a number of options in Word

  • Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the picture, choose “Format Picture”
  • Click on the ‘Layout’ tab

You can use the ‘Style’ and the ‘Alignment’ of wrapping.
Feel free to try some out. The ‘Cancel’ button helps you to return to the original picture.

One option which we will discuss further is the “Edit Wrap Points”

  • Click on the ‘Wrap’ in ‘Picture’ menu
  • Click “Edit Wrap Points”

You will find black circuit points around the picture, connected by a red dotted line

  • Click and drag the points to adjust the text wrap around the picture

 

 

Watermark

We can have a logo, text and even a picture as a watermark in a document integration.

  • First we add the appropriate file
  • Place the image in the correct position
  • Click on the “Picture Control” option in the Figure Toolbar
  • Choose ‘Watermark’
  • Click on the “Wrap” in the Picture Toolbar
  • Select ‘No’ next to the text above the figure display
  • Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the toolbar and activate the ‘Drawing’ toolbar
  • Choose ‘Sequence’
  • and click on ‘Behind Text’

Editing of Pictures in further detail

A picture which is composed of individual images, can be changed much more:
an example:

  • First, we add the picture:
  • Click ‘Insert’ in the toolbar
  • Select ‘Picture’
  • Click “From File”
  • Click cartoon
  • Click on “Insert”
  • Double click on the picture and this brings us automatically to “Microsoft Word Picture”

  • Click on the different images in the picture and see that this picture consists of four separate pictures
  • To select all the images we click with the ‘Shift’ button on all images
  • For grouping all images we click on the ‘Symbol’ in the ‘Drawing’ toolbar

 

  • Choose ‘Group’ to group all the images together and to create a picture
  • Go back to the “Drawing”
  • Select “Rotate and Flip”
  • Click “Flip Horizontal”

To undo the grouping of different images we need to click on the ‘Symbol’ in the on ‘Drawing’ toolbar and select ‘Ungroup’
Once ungrouped, we can remove all images in the picture individually using the”Drawing” toolbar and clicking the ‘Delete Button’

  • Click “Close Picture” in the floating toolbar to return to Word
  • You can see that all the changes are applied.

To edit the picture optimally on the ‘Drawing” bar

  • Add the picture
  • Double click the picture
  • The cursor appears in the image, type your text
  • Or click in the character bar on “WordArt’ and add your text (see next lesson ‘WordArt’)

Insert and edit frames

You can insert both text and a picture in one frame

  • Click on the “Frame” in the “Insert” menu
  • Click and drag until the desired size of the frame is reached and you can always adjust the size and location of the frame later by selecting and dragging it.
  • The cursor is already in the frame
  • Type text or insert a picture
  • Here you can format everything you want using the “Picture” toolbar
